TV trickery?

We have all seen this before so how do they do it?

What I am talking about is the infomertial in which they are selling some sort of what I guess is a snake oil...they on TV infront of everyone will drain the engine oil and leave the plug out of an engine sitting on a stand, and just add a quart of this special oil (with plug still out) and start the engine and let it run at redline for the duration of the commercial to sell their product.

Are they cutting film and actually really keeping the plug in with fresh oil? What the deal and how are they doing this trick?
I know there had been many many different oil additive companies trying to sell their product by doing the commercial this way.

Well it is not all foolery. If you drain your oil in your car that only hold 4 qts and add one qt of (insert name here) you have at least 1 1/2 qts of stuff in the motor. It will run for a long time on this much oil. Especially it being 1 a syn blend of stuff, and 2, no load on the engine.

I know this because I drove close to 300 miles with 1/2 a qt in a Ford 302. Never checked the oil before I left /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I used slick50 once in a older engine and 1 week later I blew the oil pump. Thought it was 50's fault, but it ended up being the spring from the fuel pump that wedged in the ol pump. I am a believer of some of the stuff out there, just don't have the means to test it so I run AMSOIL and call it good.

I guess running the engine with the drain plug out only lets a little bit oil of oil right? Being that the engine parts moving are creating a suctions and or the oil is being pumped around the engine and not into the pan where it would drain out?

Don't believe that unless you got an extra engine around. Many engines are fried when someone left the oil plug loose. Many fried when the filter came loose, too.

I was at a car show once where they were going to "Brick" a motor, and the contest was to see how long before it seized up. (Bricking is to place a brick on the GO pedal and walk away).

Now, for whatever reason, most of the car show ppl in the Seattle area are PRO-chevy, and ANTI-ford, and the car chosen was a 4 or 6 cylinder ford. Lte 70s or early 80s escort looking thing.

The announcer was very obviously a chevy guy and was taking low numbers as to when it would seize. seconds to just a few minutes.

I think it was around minute 30 or minute 45 or something they just reached in and turned the motor off. While Im sure it was toast, it never did fully seize /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif . The announcer was eating crow about how crappy ford motors were.

The same cannot be said about my buddie's pinto 2000 motor he ran too lean. Literally welded the pistons to the cylinder walls. Too HOT.
