Re: ULSD Fuel

i have ran howes for the last 2 years, mainly for the anti gelling at first, I stopped for a month last summer, lost an injector....coincidence??????? Anyway, I run it all year long, I tend to run it to the winter mix year round. I also drive 125-150k miles a year in it.. No problems out of it. I have ran other stuff, but due to the lower cost of howes, when compared to the cost of others, I will continue to use Howes. It is sold at alot of Flying J truck stops, so you may want to check one of those out.

Re: ULSD Fuel

Seems to me the PSD's with mechanical fuel systems dont like ULSD. Life span of a pump is short now. All have been weep hole leaks. I think its from the fuel.

I was told by a cummins tech rep to add a quart of brake fluid to my tank with fill ups to lubricat the fuel system. It seems to work quite well. KDB

I DON'T think you want to do that!!! Brake fluid is a type of glycol, and it sucks water out of the atmosphere like a sponge. Water is what you're trying to keep out of your fuel.

Send a message via ICQ to Powerstrokedogg
i have been adding any ATF or motor oil i hve laying arround

has anyone noticed a couple of months after this ULSD crap came out the price started to go up..... now diesel fuel has been as much as $1 more than PREMIUM!!!

not to mention a diesel engine running properly has far less emissions than a gasoline engine

i really think our government has their heads up their arse!

Stripping sulfur out of the fuel is, unfortunately, expensive. It's not the availability of ULSD that annoys me, so much as being FORCED to use it. Even in older vehicles, where we were supposed to have a choice, I can't find a gas station or truck stop that sells regular low-sulfur diesel anymore. It's ULSD only, everywhere.

So with this ULSD now in use for years now, and my 2000 E350 7.3 now over 155K on mileage. The question would be "Would it be good to get a spare fuel pump because the stock is about to go South?"

I thought Alaska received an exemption from the ULSD requirement until 2010?

They did, but it's probably obsolete by now.
