What kind of mileage do you get from your truck?

I was just wondering about mileage and how much you guys get from your trucks. All trucks are welcome. 6.6L, 7.3L, 5.9L, 6.0L, etc.

Not in my sig anymore, but it was a 97 Ram/ Cummins with a bunch of mods & got 17 on the highway & 10-13 in town. The work truck in my sig gets a tankful avg. of 5.7mpg ...But it has 4.78 gears and is always loaded past 26.5k pounds.

My 03 duramax usually got around 18.5mpg, didn't matter how I drove it, city, interstate..etc.

Re: What kind of mileage do you get from your truck?

I've got as high as 18 but I have to drive SLOW to get that. Needless to say I don't see that high very often. I usually get 15/16 which ain't to shabby though!

Re: What kind of mileage do you get from your truck?

Old 7.3/manual with 3.55's - I can get 18-21 hwy. depending on how fast I drive. My company '99 Dodge/auto with 3.55's won't break 16, but it has an Edge box.

Re: What kind of mileage do you get from your truck?

Summer, on the interstates I am getting 22 or so. Winter, around town it is more like 18. Towed 5,000lbs with a lot of windage 3k miles and got 16. 3.55 rear really helps.

Re: What kind of mileage do you get from your truck?

The other side of the coin for this topic ( small diesels):

1991 Niva, W/ Benz 240D + turbo. IDI, no intercooler, cold air snorkle, 2.5" exhaust, Benz 722 auto, 4.10's, tweaked fuel & timing, 3200 lb kerb weight, full time 4wd.

driven 'nicely' 36 city / 45 hwy
driven normally 32 city / 43 hwy
flogging it 26 city / 38 hwy

by comparison, my 99 1/2 model year VW Jetta 1.9TDI w/ 5 speed manual.
best ever - 72 MPG @ sustained 50-55 mph speeds, no traffic @ night
average highway - 54 MPG
average city - 35 MPG

the Niva towed ok up to ~3500lbs, but at that point was working HARD on long grades ( couldnt legally pull more on-road anyway ). I set the TDI up to pull a small utility trailer to go camping, ( <1000, loaded) and would never try it again: absolutely no extra power for that sort of work. there are defintely trade offs for the mileage.

Re: What kind of mileage do you get from your truck?

Since I put my 4" exhaust on two weeks ago, I've been getting 17-18mpg. Mostly, about 70-75mph. Before that it was about 15-16.

11k+ miles pulling 1200-3k# with my TDI - Alaska, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Washington Passes. Pulled 1500# back and forth over the continental divide with no problems and pulled the I90 east bound grade out of Billings, MT. @ speed limit. Best little tower around.

90 F350 4x4 Crew 7.3idi - 18mpg combined commute - 22mpg highest hwy. TDI - 49 mpg same commute - you don't want to know the highest.

TDI towing
