I'm over Ford, I've had 12 of them (should of kept some of the 7.3s)but this current one is the last straw.I need one that will hold up to pulling 12k on a regular baises.I've heard about the bad mpg on the 6.4s.What do you think???

i think you have the best pickup it just needs a cummins conversion kit installed, may be cheaper than new pickup it would be hard for me to let go of a ford body

is fuel mileage your only issue with Ford? With the new emmissions regulations nobody is getting good fuel mileage. Some say the GM's are getting better MPG's but the one our company has (Crew cab SRW) gets 13, however, all the guys that drive it seem to think they just stole it. Anytime you get a dually, fuel mileage is out the window. I try and keep my 04 dually down around 2000 RPM's but I still only see 13.6. I have a bed full of tools, If I was completely empty I might see 1 more MPG. i've seen people from all three brands say they get 20 MPG out of a dually, no way no how, it's not going to happen, I don't know of too many dually's that have 3.55:1 gears, and even then it would be tough.
Just a thought. I hear that the Ford is going to get a Cummins in the next few years and Dodge will get a Catapillar motor. Not verified as of yet. Mike
My 2006 Ram 3500, gets 20-22 mpg highway IF I keep her at 70mph. Truck has 22,000 on it, mileage still improving as miles add up.
Six speed.
I agree with others' advice here... an '06 or early '07 Dodge/Cummins would be a great truck. Anything pre-new-emissions. I'm a Dodge and Ford guy, but a Duramax might be OK too.
Mike

well if Chevy could figure out how to make a dually stop i would have one in my driveway.
The only two post 08 Fords i have been around were problem children.
so that leaves the dodge.
with all that said my 2000 DRW f-350 has served me well for the last 325,000 miles and i see no need to get rid of it any time soon.

I also heard that the toyota was getting a cat engine in their truck line. this is before the bottom totally fell out of the market. Cat is also in talks with international to possible let international take over all its over the road business. I also heard that they maybe working jointly on a new engine line using combined tech. Either way the goal seems to try and create an engine that does not need a dpf and limit each companies liaibility for epa fines. It sounds like we may never see a real cat engine in any of our trucks unless we put them our selves.
Agree. Complaints about the Dodge wrapped around the Cummins these days just make me laugh. Some folks are still trapped in the '90s, it appears.
The main thing that annoys me about the dodge is their lack of a crew cab offering.
Their extended cab has regular rear opening doors whoopee. Nice try but its not a crew cab.
The mega cab is ridiculous. might as well be an RV. and the lack of a true crew cab long bed with a decent looking dually bed puts dodge outta the market for me.
BUT if im mulling around getting a new 550 Size work truck. And the best choice bar none right now is the sterling 5500 which is just the dodge with a different dealer and different grille.

My fathers newer Dodge has had it's fair share of stupid failures, just like the stupid failures the strokes have.
If it were not for the front ends of the gm's I would think the maxi/allison would be the best package.
They all have their short commings which could be easily fixed on the assembly line.
