I think you have to find the fine line between being insulting, which gets your post deleted, and merely "crusty" before they shut the thing down. Hopefully we are getting close.
By the way, I think he is right, you should read his signature. It explains a lot.
Jap 6 cylinder? The Duramax V8 is an Izuzu by the way.

In the initial advertising literature Ford said the 6.0L had gone through more than 2,000,000 miles of testing.
International has been building engines since the early 1900's.
Here's some of their more famous designs:
Farmall Cub Tractor
Farmall 140 Tractor
345 V-8 gas
392 V-8 gas
DT-466
DT-408
--just to name a few
International doesn't make junk. Ford doesn't make junk either. What happens is you have 2 very large companies trying to put together ONE truck and it gets entangled between Engineering (the good guys), Accounting (the bad guys), Marketing (the guys who want more power), and Final Assembly (the ones who just don't care either way).
Now my personal opinion is that if Ford went to a 6 cyl. diesel, International and Ford would need to work on a revised and updated DT-408 sized engine keeping the PSD name for the F-250/350/450/550/650, and leave the Cat and that 'other' brand of diesel for the 650 and 750 models.
If I'm not mistaken, International already builds the chassis for the F-650 and F-750's anyway. All Ford does is stick a body and electronics on it if it has a Power Stroke, unless they install a Cat or that 'other' brand of diesel in.

Well, since Dodge has the Cummins tied up in the states for several more years, that one is out. As for the "DEPENDABLE 7.3", Navistar got themselves in a bind with that engine by lying to the Feds about meeting emmissions requirements. Thus leading to a consent decree from the Feds. Under the consent decree, Navistar had to meet the more stringent EPA requirements well ahead of everyone else. Apparently, the 7.3 could not be made to meet those requirements. So the bottom line is, the Federal government made Navistar, (and thus Ford), go away from the 7.3. Ford had no choice in the matter if they chose to continue to sell trucks equipped with the Power Stroke diesel.

That's some interesting information. Where did you read/hear that? I would like to learn some more about the circumstances surrounding the demise of the 7.3...

Can't we all just get along.... To Powerstroker... saying "never a 6 in my truck"... Only a v-8... 6s are for "japtraps"... Well, a very good Diesel mechanic told me, "there is no good V-8 Diesels made"... He is a mechanic... Why would a Diesel mechanic say that.. As far as 6 cylanders... Most of the "over the road", long haul commercial trucks" use "STRAIGHT INLINE 6 ENGINES"... And, The best engine Ford EVERY built... the 300 is a "straight in line 6"... No, it won't win a race or burn the rubber off the tires... But they get very good fuel mileage and go FOREVER....... As a matter of fact, they were so good, FORD don't make them anymore.... "powerstroker" are you refering to me? Japtraps? I said japcraps. And ive known alot of wrenchers and theirs some that think that their dodge 318 has more power than a new semi. Not very bright. And if you believe this guy you better sell your V8 since theirs no good v8's made???? Everyone on this site is shaking their head, or at least most. The ford 300 had no power, if i wanted millage i would get a kia, diesels are for hauling, would a 300 straight make it up a mountain with any load, give me a he!! no. If you dont like the engine make the switch and dont tell us how it went.

There were some very good V-8 diesels made. The Detroit Diesel 71 series and 92 series. They were discontinued because they would no longer meet emissions. Now they have the 60 series inline 6. But those old Detroits would go forever....you just had to watch those oil leaks - and you think the 6.0's leaked oil??
