General DieselDiscussion about diesels in general. All brands are welcome, please refrain from brand wars. Discussions about types of diesel fuel also go here.
I paid $3.99.9 yesterday..It is getting out of hand. If the fed wants to stimulate the economy quit worrying about rates and help us where it hurts daily.
I have actually been researching the Vegetable oil option but it is a good initiall investment and would definetly be more hassell than just stopping as the gas station.

Was holding steady at $3.99 in my neck of the woods in Maryland but recently made the jump over $4 a gallon. Now many are at $4.20-$4.30 a gallon. Thankfully I have a frugal Toyota Matrix that get 32+mpg for my work commute. My commute: 100 round trip a day, work about 20 days a month
Driving the diesel would cost me $745 a month in fuel
Driving the Toyota cost me $202 a month in fuel
Savings by gently running my hand over the big fenders of my beautiful 450, saying goodbye to it in the morning before hopping in the Toyota, $543 a month!!! That is about my truck payment!!!! I am very seriously throwing in the towel, buying a lightweight hybrid camper and Toyota Tacoma to replace the big truck and fifth wheel if diesel prices continue to climb.
Do you think that all this may be a well planned Gore groupie plan to get us to "cry uncle" to driving out diesels?

I made the decision to own both a 49 MPG TDI jetta and a pickup. At the current $1 plus prem. for diesel a high mileage gas and my TDI is a wash. So the reason why I bought my diesel commuter over a gas is now moot.
I pose the same question to a few guys at work, at what point will you park the pickup and commute with a higher mileage rig? I generally get..... I will not lower myself to commute with 'a tin can'.
Even the current price of 4.10 a gallon is not enough to change the trend of 8000lb commuter pickups in my work parking lot. I'm afraid we need much higher prices before things will change. For me its economics.

$3.79 for ULSD in Southeastern VA. Highest it's ever gotten is $3.89. Regular ole gasoline hovers around $3.09. Diesel was cheaper than gas until about Sep/Oct of last year. Hoping it will swap back in the next few weeks but not holding my breath. Refinery is 4 miles from my house, tankers (from Canada?) pull right up to their front door so minimal trans-shipment expenses, mostly just the standard pound of flesh to the peoples republic of VA.

Go Hokies!
4.75 a gallon yesterday, and the idiot cashier almost got slapped when he tried charging 4.81 because i used my debit card! it doesnt say anywhere that it is more expensive to use a credit card, but he showed me a little paper he kept INSIDE the store AT THE COUNTER, and i paid at the pump, and it said credit is 6 cents more expensive, as a service fee, and debit cards are used like a cash ticket. so after 20 minutes of argueing he gave me my 2 $ back. then i thought, wow i just fought with that guy and screamed at him for $2, but hey, that is just under a half a gallon that i was charged for and didnt get! well anyway ive seen it 4.55-4.89 depending on the fuel company and the location. i think ill start riding the harley more, but i will never drive one of those little PEA-SHOOTERS that people call cars, i just wouldnt look right, picture a 5'10" male, 240 lbs, camo hat and shirt, wranglers and boots getting out of a two door hyundai elantra, not gunna happen!.

$5 on the dot in Orange County, California. It's my commuter vehicle. I just put in longer hours because I love my truck. I gas up every 17-20 days and wouldn't have it any other way.
