You'll love this one

went to a dealer in SLC today, lookin for a 450 to play in, no salesman knew what i wanted and sent me to the fleet manager. he wanted to know why i wanted such a large truck(like i dont know what im looking for), well first thing that came to mind was well it is america and i can have what i want, but i told him the more relavant reason of towing 2-3 cars. he said o well that is going to get terrible fuel economy. i was losing my patience and said well then i guess ill get a ridgeline, im looking at a 9-10k lbs, truck fuel economy isnt a concern, i want what i can get but beggers cant be choosers. he said he just wanted me to know that, well that all just sets up this next part... "have you heard anything on the 6r120" (me) "not much why" (him) "just checking, maybe the new 6speeder will get better fuel econ" "maybe but i doubt anything will happen like that in a f450 they are too big" (him) i was amazed and confused and entertained. just thought id let you know the "update" on where we stand for a 6speed auto. what a fun day truck shopping

Re: You'll love this one

I had a salesman at the dealership tell me it didn't matter what engine was installed; they all consume the same amount of fuel because a smaller engine needs to "rev higher" and "work harder".

I didn't say anything, but Click & Clack's " Why You Should Never Listen to Your Father When It Comes to Cars" sure did come to mind.

They sell. That's what they know: selling. Often little or nothing more.

Re: You'll love this one

It is amazing the lack of knowledge the sale people have regarding the SD. Everytime I go to look at them there is a different sales team, and I end up educating them on these trucks!! You would think there would be more training, but I guess with that kind of turn-over it's not cost effective to spend too much time on training.

Re: You'll love this one

From my experience finding a 450 takes some patience, I am pretty close to you, just outside Idaho Falls id and found 1 in rexburg, smith ford, pretty good experience buyin it through them. If you can find one they are pretty cool except the fuel milage really does SUCK ( 10.1 mpg) but hey who cares when you can be pulling a house lmao I have owned this one for about 2 months and other then refueling frequently I have few complaints about it yet. Be warned the ride when not loaded is pretty stiff but you add a load to it and it drives like my denali, oh and it is governed at 83 mph

So if you can find one and drive it you will probably end up buying it,

Re: You'll love this one

p.s
About insurance, it is kinda hard to get it through your regular private insurance, I use allstate for my personal cars and trucks and first they said they couldnt cover it at all because it is listed as commercial but then quoted me 2 grand a year, I ended up adding it to my buisiness insurance policy and pay about 1100.00 per year, I dont know if it is because it really is considered commercial, the model is too new and they think it is commercial grade or if my agent just isnt giving 100%, but just wanted to let you guys know about it.

Re: You'll love this one

Rest assured, when it comes to salesperson knowledge you most dodge dealerships don't do any better. I've had one or two salesmen tell me why the cummins v8 diesel in the dodges was better than the duramax or powerstroke.

Re: You'll love this one

My experience over the years has been that when it comes to salesmen for any product "the most", "the best", "the greatest thing since sliced bread" is always what they have in stock at the time. If anyone takes anything that a saleman tells them as fact without independantly verifying the information first they are a fool.

Re: You'll love this one

when I got my 450 in 1999 it was only getting 8 mpg and had no power .Went to the dealer and told them ...their reply was "if you wanted good mileage you should have bought a Ranger!"I took it to another dealer that put a turbo clamp on that was misssing and that fixed the problem!!Got to love some people!!

Re: You'll love this one

a friend of mine wanted to buy a dodge from a private party, we took it to a shop to have it looked over, when we were "checking in" they asked, year, make, model and engine, he said 1999 dodge ram 5.9 cummins td, he was asked how many cylinders, we responded 6. the guy said o well that must be why its here? we said huh? well you blew 2 of em. we said no its fine. he said well what about the other 2 they are a v8 ya know? NO.... but this guy was convinced it was incompetance is beautiful

Re: You'll love this one

I should have done that, but I blew it by laughing and then instinctively informing him that it was a 6 cylinder. Unfortunately, he at least acted like he believed me, so I lost the chance to make him stutter and backpedal.

It was with a totally straight face, but I don't think it was because he's an expert liar/actor. I think it was because he really doesn't know one way or the other, was never curious enough to find out, and in his mind, he's not lying, just trying to be helpful. (helping me buy from him, that is)

Re: You'll love this one

Take 'em for what they are "CAR SALESMEN" if they were smart they would have a real job!
They make their living by BS-ing YOU into buying! Plain and simple. They are trained, not on the vehicles, on the BS!
They don't have to know ANYTHING about what they are selling IF they can make YOU believe they do!
I love to go to the dealers and correct the salesmen again and again on the ones that I know all about.
disclaimer: not 100% of car salesmen fit this description, at most 99.99999%
