2001 GMC Sierra 2500 HD 4x4 issues

I bought a 2500HD with push button 4x4 about 2 months ago. I started having intermittent trouble with the 4x4 about a month ago. I was getting a service 4x4 light and the problen just mysteriously went away. A couple of days later I lost everything to do with 4x4. There is no service 4x4 light, no indicator light that i am in 2 wheel drive, and it will not change into 4x4. I am looking for guidance on what to check. I have a feeling that power is not getting to the transfer case control module in the dash but I don't have a wiring diagram. Thanks in advance for your help.

If it the same set-up they have had for years it soiunds like the 4x4 actualtor is shot.

It is a gas filled piece. When you put it in 4x4 it heatrs the gas and the plunger is pushed out engaging the 4wd. When the seal goes the gas leaks out and the plunger can not move.

It would make sense that there are no lights becasue it is not actually engaging.

This of course is only if gm is still using the same system.

I have been told by someone else that it may be the actuator. I do not even have the light indicating 2x4 but they said a bad actuator could cause that.
