Acidic Air Freshener?

My wife's suv suffered some damage on the dash around the a/c vent. I suspect that it was caused by a scented oil air freshener. Have any of you experienced this? If so, what products should we all avoid using?

Haven't had the problem in any vehicles, but my wife put one of them on top of one of our old CRT Televisions in the kids rec room. The thing either leaked or the oil spilled somehow, and it basically started dissolving the plastic top of the TV. I went to go move the thing and had literally sunken into the plastic surface by a few millimeters. I pryed it out of the top of the TV, and there's now a divot in the top in the shape of the air freshener.

My wife now puts those oil air freshener things on a glass dish before we put them in the rooms.

Not me, but a guy on the Toyota Tundra forum complained of the exact same thing so I guess there's something in some of them that's harmful.
