try infranview i think that will open a cad file
or gimp i know for sure gimp will open cad files
newer more professional versions of cadd will be able to send to print as a jpg at that point just move from the temp files but idk if your version does that with the old file format

Do a google search for cutepdf writer. Download and install program it's free. Once installed open your AutoCAD drawing, plot and chose cutepdf as the the printer, chose page size and scale then plot and it will ask where you want it saved. Open pdf and save as a jpg., tiff. or whatever you want.

Does it need to be at scale? Or can you plot to fit sheet?
A screen capture (shift printscreen) will give you what's on the screen. If you need to plot to scale on a specific scale, the Adobe acrobat is your best bet. In Acrobat V7, it installs just like a plot driver, so I just pick it for the plotter, and tell it what scale I need to plot (if I'm in model space).
Using Adobe will allow you to select a larger sheet than "legal" or "tabloid" as well.
