Can women fly combat missions now?

I thought women were only in support rolls in the navy but, I found this video of the USS Reagan and if you look, there are a few jets with womens names and call signs, is it a spoof?

Re: Can women fly combat missions now?

BTW, that is the Captain about 5/8 through the video, I'm surprised he let them use his picture?

Re: Can women fly combat missions now?

The short answer is yes, since the early 90's.

Re: Can women fly combat missions now?

I mean real F/A 18 combat rolls? I saw the E2 Hawkeye pilot but I guess they can slide that off as "support"

Re: Can women fly combat missions now?

Absolutely, the Navy had more than a dozen female F-18 pilots in the first gulf war.

Great video, I bet it impresses her when she shoves the throttle down on that F-18.

Re: Can women fly combat missions now?

I was on one of the first couple of ships to get females aboard in 1976. USS Dixon (AS-37). The tenders were the easiest to retro-fit for berthing.

Any good sailor can make room for female berthing.

Ex wife was in Iraq #1 at a tanker pilot and went back again for Iraq #2 flying tanker missions. Tanker missions are very often in harms way and even when they are not in harms way are still quite dangerous. Women are very good combat pilots and have been for some time now. I do know the AF and Navy have a bunch of them, I don't know if the Marines have any yet.

I'm surprized he let them have that much fun? You did note the captain also was a pilot!

It's not a bad career!

Re: Can women fly combat missions now?

A girl I know at UCF is going to be a fighter pilot. She paid her own way through flight school to learn to fly planes and all the such by stripping. She's pretty hot BTW...

Along the way she found a fellow pilot dude to sponsor her getting into whatever special program she is in to fly fighters. From what she says you essentially have to be a triathlon, never had a broken bone, and some other requirements you wouldn't immediately think about.
