I have a uniden pro 510 cb and need some ideas on what type of cb antenna I should get. I've done some searching on the net and from what I gather I need should have about 1/2 to 2/3 the antenna above the top of the truck. Following this reasoning I would need an antenna that is about 6' long, but don't see any of them at the area truck stops. Most of what I have seen are from 3 to 5' in length. I don't want to drill holes in the top of my truck so it will probably be mounted on the bed.

well a good investment is a headache rack put it on that if you want to buy one
if not the mirror bracket is enough for 5 ft length

You could go with the wilson mag mount as the others metioned or try one of wilsons trucker antennas with the longer shaft. Also a 5' fiberglass antenna would probly get the job done considering most of the wire is near the top.
I've got Radio Shacks trucker twins mounted right behind the cab on the front rail of the bed, they do great. Had them mounted on the mirrors, but they made so much wind noise you couldn't stand it. OH the tennas are 4 ft long so they stick up about 2 ft over the cab.

Go to your local truck stop and get a hood mount and buy the 5' FireStick; can't go wrong. It isn't a ton of money, you don't have to movie it around so your paint doesn't fade or get burned like a magnetic mount and you don't need the special "non-ground plane" antenna like you would on a headache rack. You should be able to get the antenna and the mount for under 30 bucks. After you mount it, take it to your local CB shop and have them check the SWR to see if it needs tuned; I'm guessing it won't.

I run a 4' K40 superflex. they are tunable and can handle up to 1500 watts (if you ever decide to go with more power), they are not as thick as a firestick, which is also a excellent antenna, so they have a little more flex or give when mounted on the fender area. they also come with a 5 year warranty. Cost on them is about $30 I believe.
