Looking into galvanizing the outside of a gas tank before it goes back onto a Landcruiser. Has anybody ever used cold galvanizing where you buy stuff in a gallon or arasol can? Does this work well? Any recomendations on what to use?
Thanks,
-Rob

If your dead set on cold galvanizing forget trying to spray it in a gun from a gallon can.
If you must use the cold galvanizing use the spray cans. Before use put them in a bucket of hot water for 15 min for the contents of the can to warm up then SHAKE THE HECK OUT THEM! put them back in the bucket for another 5 min then shake again and use.
if its too cold the cold galv will plug the nozzle up in no time flat. My shop goes through 5-10 cases of cold galv a month.

Rhino liner is the other option, the cold galvanizing would give the gas tank a stock look I'm going for. Dualie, what is the stuff you guys use exaclty? Can I get it localy or on the internet?
Thanks,
-Rob

Company I used to work for used a stainless steel paint called "Steel It", used 304 SS powder instead of alum. powder like in alum. paint. I painted the battery tray in My old '87 F-150 with it when I replaced the battery and it was starting to rust. Hit it with a wire cub brush on My 4-1/2" angle grinder and sprayed it down. Also painted the wheel for the spare tire on My F-250 that hung under the back fuel tank for 12 yrs and over 250,000 miles. Wheel didn't rust either. Good Stuff!

Hands down the best cold galvanizing I've ever used is ZRC http://www.zrcworldwide.com . It's the only cold galvanizing compound that I know of that's recognized by UL as equilivent to hot dip galvanizing. The key to getting the full benefit of the compound is to get the steel very clean, i.e., sandblasted. ZRC makes two different compounds, that differ in appearance only. Galvalite is the lighter gray version commonly used to touch-up fresh galvanizing, and the original ZRC is a darker gray color. I've used both and they work equally well. The really cool thing about ZRC cold galvanizing compound is that it offers true cathodic protection, and will keep steel from rusting even if the coating is scratched through.
I have used both products mentioned above and they both work well.
I'm out of town right now so I cant get the name of the stuff im getting from my local welding gas supplier. Its a good value product but the two mentioned above offer better protection
