My preferences for concealed carry: Glock 19 and for you revolver fans, I recently picked up a Taurus 617 seven shot 357mag. Seven shots is one or two more than most revolvers and it's a fairly compact frame. It's about the same size as the Glock 19 but is heavier due to more steel and zero plastic. I paid $320 for a new one and I've always read good things about Taurus weapons.
My Taurus is a great gun. Not very concealable though. Taurus International Manufacturing Inc

I carry a Smith & Wesson model 640 , which is a 357 mag, Its a hammer less model so you can only shoot double action, its very compact and does pack a punch. I was always taught that a concealed weapon must be safe, reliable, available and easy to conceal.

My wife and I both carry a Makarov, 9x18mm Sufficient for defense, 8+1 capacity and easily concealed.Very reliable, as you would expect from Soviet/Eastern Bloc militay surplus, Goes bang every time you pull the trigger. Also very affordable, My wifes East German Mak cost $270, and my Bulgarian Mak cost $150.
