Consumer Watchdog Govt Agencies?

Last night about 3 or 4 am I was awakened rather abruptly. The little space heater I keep in my bed room had caught on fire. It was shooting a foot long stream of sparks/flame and belching a pretty good cloud of smoke. Burned the heck out of the carpet in front of it, and I am pretty sure had I not been home it would have caught the house on fire.

This is a Pelonis DiscFurnace 3.

I would like to make sure this item makes it into a data base somewhere where others can be warned, and the manufacturer is held liable if and when somebody gets hurt.

Who should i contact?

Re: Consumer Watchdog Govt Agencies?

Never had to do something like that, but I would start with your Att gen office.

Glad you were home and were able to do somethin about it. I have had two losses associated to fire. Wish i couldhave done something about them.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
http://www.cpsc.gov/

And if you're daring, plug it back in for a few minutes and put the video on YouTube.

Re: Consumer Watchdog Govt Agencies?

Glad to hear everyone was ok. Terrible way to start the new year. I would look them up on the internet and send them a picture of heater and damage.
I had an electric heater once and It got the floor pretty hot around it. I drove to HD abd bought a piece of 1/4 tile backer board and placed it under the heater. I could sleep better at night knowing I had a fireroof 'floor' under the heater. Just an idea.
Best wishes for the new year.
