Diesel Turbo Estate Car Losing Power

Hello

First of all im new and sorry if this is wrong section .

the problem is the car is losing power
perticualy on hills the day it was bought was fine
then 2nd day it lost power going up hills
would only go 20mph max its far from new
its a 1998 v/h estate turbo even on the flat
it struggles to even go to 60mph

yeah, I agree, fuel filter and possible contaminated fuel.
How is the alternator? If the alternator were going bad, it would start robbing you of power to the point of draining the battery down.
Boost leaks around the turbo?
Have you posted your question on any of the Vauxhall owner's websites? Vauxhall Owners Network - Powered by vBulletin You might get a better direction on where to check for the problem.

Hey, Shorty -

Why do you assume it's a Vauxhall? Granted, "estate" is the British name for station wagon, but lots of brands of station wagons other than Vauxhall are sold in the U.K. Why not a Ford or a VW or a Toyota or Honda? Way back when, there was a Morris Minor Estate car, but I don't think they had a turbo-diesel engine.

possibly the fuel pump. But, did you check for any boost leaks around the turbo? I guess it could also be your fuel pickup line in the tank having a clogged inlet screen or sock (if it has one). I don't know if this is a common problem with the Vauxhall diesels or not. I guess if it was common enough of a problem for a 10+ year old diesel, you would find it on one of the European sites. Had the car sat around for a long time without being run before you bought it? Are you still running on old diesel that was in the tank, or did you fill the fuel tank up with fresh diesel?

Yeah, but only a Blimey would know that v/h was short for Vauxhall. I've spent only a few weeks in England, so I don't speak Blimey very well. I thought maybe it meant VeHicle.

You got me. I've been watching too much English tv lately on English car rebuilds. Trying to decide if I have time right now to undertake a rebuild of my own. So, for right now, I live vicariously through the various English car rebuild shows that I watch.
