Dishonored Warranty Claim

This question isn't SuperDuty-specified, though I guess it could be. My wife has a 04 Escape and we picked up the 100k mile extended warranty from the dealership when we bought it. Her driver's door window stopped working, so she brought it into the dealership. Apparently, there are 3 bolts that attach the window to what the service desk guy called the regulator. They found 1 of them, but the other 2 are missing.

Seems pretty straight forward. But they said Ford won't pay to fix it. Still can't get a straight answer out of them - why not? If the motor for the window had burned out, surely they'd replace that, right? It's only $137 to replace the bolts & re-assemble the door and maybe I'm petty, but that's why I bought the warranty protection.

Is this the "no broken part" excuse?

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

It really depends on the extended warranty option purchased. A lot of dealers sell aftermarket warranties and the rest sell the Ford ESP. Even the Ford ESP has different service levels with the most expensive one being the closest to bumper-to-bumper coverage. However, none of them will cover normal wear items such as paint, brakes, fluids, belts, etc.

Your warranty packet should give you a detailed list of warrantied items. If not, the dealer should explain why the part is not covered and show the warranty clause that exempts this component.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

i dont think any of the extended warranties would cover 100k bumper to bumper. most cover drivetrain only...

my experience with ext warranties havent been good. always found reasons not to pay.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Not for vehicles, but I bought a 5 year warranty on some leather furniture that I tried to make a claim on. They wouldn't pay.
The retailer actually covered the cost of repair and the guy they sent to do it told me that most of those extended warranty companies are owned by lawyers. They figure out ways to keep from paying!
I googled the company and sure enough there were hundreds of "won't pay" complaints.
I don't buy them anymore, because most products will usually outlive the extended warranty period anyway.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Extended warranties are just a gamble. You are betting hundreds of dollars in some cases that your new vehicle is JUNK & it won't last till the warranty is expired. The insurance company (thats what they are) is betting it will last. They ALWAYS make money on these deals. MOST people don't ever have a claim. If they weren't making a profit, they would raise the price or quit selling it.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Just say no when they offer an extended warranty. Is my motto. Pure profit for delaers. Just put that money in a CD or a savings account for an emergency. Most off the time you will never get your money back.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Like F350L says. I've had both.. FMC ESP & aftmkt. ext. warr. They list what "IS/ISN'T" covered, no guess work. Sometimes your covered/sometimes not & sometimes they don't pay for themselves.

Yeah I know, but fortunately not a big (non covered) repair. Good luck.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Do a google search (or forum search) on Warranty Gold, and you'll get weeks of reading from unhappy campers (me) that bought the 100k bumper to bumper 'platinum' warranty, only to find out that Warranty Gold decided to go bankrupt even as they were selling thousands of new policies to unsuspecting buyers. The $1800 cost of my no-good warranty has not been reached with the few repairs that I've had done that might've been covered. What really hit home was the fact that these extended warranty companies are totally unregulated by the federal government. If you have a few dollars laying around, you can go get a company name and start your own warranty company by selling some policies. There's no federal requirement that you have reserve funds set aside to pay the claims that come in. Or, you act like our current medical insurance companies and deny, deny, deny any claims that make it through the system to get paid. btw, I'm still waiting for my token $140 refund as a result of the class action 'settlement' with the lawyer thieves that stripped Warranty Gold bare, all thanks to off shore banking and company ownership. Not holding my breath too long for that to show up.

short_stuff

It slays me when I'm buying a $40 item in the electronic store and the cashier asks if I want to spend $9.95 for an extended warranty for the item. HELLO! ! ! ! ! If a $40 item fails, why would I want to spend 25% of that to 'maybe' get it repaired?

We had the same exact experience. The retailer covered ours also.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

I must be the exception. When I bought the truck the dealer offered an extended warranty that "if" it wasn't used I got my money back. Never used it and about 3 weeks after it expired I had a check for the amount paid. Of course it didn't have any of the interest, but I got the base cost back. Depending on the electronics I figure they're thowaways. I would't get an extended warranty on them either.

I work in the back of a Ford dealer. Your extended warranty covers broken parts. All your covered items are listed on the back of your warranty contract. The covered parts must be broken, if nothing is broken then there is nothing to file a claim with Ford. It is much easier for us to charge Ford then charge a customer, so I would much rather charge Ford.

The aftermarket warranties are the worst. I have seen some that make you change your transmission oil every 10,000 miles !

BTW, Ford does not sell a "Bumper to Bumper" extended warranty.

Also, there are different coverages for different prices.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Ah - so had the bolts sheared, there's a broken part. Since they were either never installed, not adequately tightened, or otherwise loosened and fell out, I get nothing. I guess I'm glad it's just a couple bolts and not a bumper or tire.

Thanks for the explanation. It's just too bad that something that was obviously a defect comes out of my wallet.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

Tell them your going to File a report with the BBB. If they act as if they don't care go file the report. You have a prolbem and if its covered they should repair it for the ductable.
I got bit by the Xtended Warranty scam back in 02 I bought a new 2002 Polaris ATV, cost was $8300 with all the extra equiptment and a 5 yr warranty for drivetrain and electirical . Well in 03 i took the machine in for a electrical prolbem , Cost of repair was around $400, I paid the $50 ded. and the dealer filed the claim and 3 months later i get a bill for the bal. of $350. I found out the Warranty company was out of buiseness/ bankrupt. Luckly when i bought my ATV i used my Citibank card . I disputed the charge for the warranty ($800) after they did thier investigation I received a check from Citibank for the Prorated amount of $640.

Good luck.

Re: Dishonored Warranty Claim

The BBB means nothing. It's nothing more than a scam that sells businesses "memberships".

They call me every few months offering me a "membership". They got my phone number from a complaint made against my company......

What brand of extended warranty do you have?

The assertion that extended warranties are not bumper-to-bumper is simply not true unless you purchase one that is "powertrain only".

An $1800.00 warranty should be *ALMOST* bumper to bumper coverage.

If it is a Ford extended warranty then seeing if the part is covered or not is a simple matter of entering the part # into OASIS. It automatically checks to see if the warranty you purchased covers that part.

If you have an aftermarket warranty, things become more difficult but you have recourse by simply *****ing at the dealer that sold you the warranty.

They aren't covering the part (the bolt) because no extended warranty is going to cover nuts and bolts.

They need to type in the part # for the window regulator as the failed part then simply use the flat-rate op-code without charging out any parts.
