I do not mean to gross anyone, but I caught my 7 year old mix pitbull boxer eating some of his poop. Has this ever happened to anyone? Is this normal? Is there any thing I can/should do about it?

There is no "nice" way to arrest a potentially dangerous, combative suspect. The police are our bodyguards...our hired guns. We pay them to do the dirty work of protecting us; the things we're too afraid, to unskilled or too civilized to do ourselves. We expect them to keep the bad guys out of our businesses, our cars and houses and out of our face. We want them to "take care of the problem."
WE JUST DON'T WANT TO SEE HOW IT'S DONE.

Our Golden ate poop when she was a puppy but thankfully outgrew it. I have seen adult dogs do it as well - it doesn't say much for the dog food the owners furnish...

It is very common. My weim would eat his own, and any other poop that was out there. He was made to be very uncomfortable when I caught him doing this. He gave up on it for the most part after a year, but sometimes he could not resist the urg to eat some when he found it.

Mine seem to love an occasional horse poop 'dessert.' My 7 yr. old lab mix, Max the Wonderpuppy, is smart enough to know he isn't supposed to - looks sheepish and creeps away from the road apples when I yell at him. He likes cat, too, fortunately, none on the farm. Either variation does wonders for that dog breath!
My 7 year old lab has never eaten his poop, he prefers to eat his own vomit, I guess he figures it tasted OK the first time, I guess he's recycling.

Proverbs 26:11 (KJV) As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

Can't say as I've ever seen our dog eat poop. But I have a two-year old gelding (castrated male horse for those of you that are non-horsey) that ate lots of horse poop when he was younger. I think some of the poop eating is normal behavior, but it's still gross! FWIW, I never noticed any of the other horses that we've raised eating other horse poop. Maybe they did it and I just didn't notice.

I really can't suggest anything to put on the poo to make it taste bad. What could possibly taste worse than dog S#@T!

I've heard numerous reasons why dogs eat poop. One is that they are embarassed about pooping where they did, so they eat it. I think that implies to dogs that are chained or are not mentally stable. I've seen labs eat poop before it hits the ground. Have a friend that put a little bit of meat tenderizer on their dogs food, and he stopped eating poop. Don't know if it works or not.
