Flatbed on F150

I have been using a 5th wheel RV and towing a trailer with my two ATVs. Recently bought a motor home and need to change my system. I need a transportation vehicle after arriving at camp and also want to transport my two ATVs.
Thinking about buying a 1/2 ton pickup with 6 1/2 ft bed. Either a supercab or crewcab. Building a flatbed with extendable sides so I could load two ATVs side by side facing forward. Hope to make the flatbed easy to remove and install so the flatbed and standard bed can be swapped within an hour. I would suspend the beds in my barn with a chain hoist. Want to be able to switch because this will be my wifes transportation and she wouldn't be happy with a flatbed all the time.
Does anyone have experience with a flatbed on a late model F150 that could help me head off any problems?
Or maybe there is a better way to solve this problem?

lge,
Last year, someone put up a link to a site that had a bed expander that allowed you to load two ATV's side by side into a regular pickup bed, and had storage room in the lower part of the bed. I'll have to look and see if I still have that link lying around. Might be a cheaper solution than having to swap the bed to a flat bed. I guess I'd be concerned about the weight of the two ATV's on a 1/2 ton, but I'm sure you could put some extra leaf springs or air shocks to make up the difference.

Have you considered just getting a trailer which is big enough to haul the one on-road vehicle and the two off-road vehicles simultaneously? And maybe going with a smaller on-road vehicle, since it's just going to be the campsite runabout?

thank you Short stuff and drcampbell. I have considered a trailer to haul a small car and the ATVs. A friend tried this approach. It was somewhat successfull but many places we camp require that the ATVs be trailered to the riding area. The small car will not pull the trailer.
Another friend uses a ramp system similar to the "tilt a rack" but does not like it because the center of gravity is so high.
For now, I will have my wife pull our ATV trailer with my truck till I come up with a solution. But I know she will not be happy doing this for very long.

Most motorhomes are not rated for the tongue weight of a trailer...............
