bearings, main & rods, will be different.
Crank will likely be different.

What truck 429 used in 1982 + heavy trucks is not the same engine as the car 429 used 1973 and before. They are in the same engine series but I would venture to guess that parts interchange is limited. That would extend to the car - based 460.

they are too different to bolt in but if you have a welder just make a place for the side mounts to go

Ditto: 4-5 mpg on a GOOD day!

Mine in my Torino is gallons per hour verses MPG. Trip to town and back is 1/4 tank, and I am only 6 miles from town. But a 12 to 1 roller motor will chew up the fuel fast.

15265,
If you can successfully mate the transmission to the engine, go ahead with the swap. You can make the engine fit. I once had a truck 429 replaced with an automobile 428 from the junk yard and got several more good years of service from the truck involved.

To mix it up even more I have heard the Lincoln 460's are different from the Ford 460's, they cannot be used in a lot of swaps due to some odd way they are set up.
Our FPD has a F650 tanker with a 2,000 gallon tank and a 429 / 4spd Allison Auto combination. It is one of the least enjoyable vehicles I have ever driven. With a full tank of water, it will barely, barely make 55 mph on flat ground, and will not hold even 40 mph up the slightest of hills.
Going with a 460 is not going to help it any. With power or mpg.

Add fuel to that it jumps to 16.5 cents per mile over the life of the truck.
Keep in mind the truck 429 is a custom engine - designed for heavy truck use. Swapping to a car engine - even a larger one - will probably result in lower useable power and a shorter life span.

429(370 is worse) is a gas drinking slug, I would rather a 300 6 cylinder. I had the displeasure of driving an F-800 with a 12 foot plow, and a 10 yard sander, and 10 gears wern't enough. I say find a nice diesel that needs a home and let it live where the gas hog was.
