When I put my system together 9 years ago, I used infinity speakers. I am very happy with the result. But now I am trying to help a friend set up a system and she has no idea what to buy so I figured I would help. I don't even see infinity speakers in the stores anymore. I checked circuit city, bestbuy and tweeter and they do not seem to carry infinity. Does anybody know why or have another suggestion of a decent speaker company. We don't want to research this to death. That is why I kind of wanted infinity. I figured with a good name, she really can't go wrong. Any suggestions?

Infinity are still out there. Do an online search for stores near you. Electronic Expo. Suggest that you take her to one of the box store's you mentioned to listen. Everyones hearing is different and what may sound good to you may not be preferred to others. Also you know that different speakers will not reproduce the same sound, even high end. If she can't hear the difference, pick what she likes and call it good. KEF is good,my son has them, but if she has money to throw look at B&W.
Have fun

My friend has had those for about 3 years, awesome sound and great quality.
Snell speakers (fronts), Kilpsh speakers (rear), Onkyo receiver, and Polk audio sub... I used to have the Boston acoustics fronts and rears with their center channel, with a Yamaha receiver, with a Sonance sub. I thought that rocked but the first set up I mentioned BLOWS my old set up away!!!

I third the Klipsch speakers...right now, I'm running a Yamaha receiver and subwoofer, Klipsch center channel and rears (from Best Buy, simply because they had the best prices), and B&W front L/R. The Klipsch are great.
I fourth the Klipsch, but use dealer finder at klipsch.com to find someone that sells the "Reference" line. Dollar for dollar, the Reference line sounds better than what BB sells, even though that is a great product.
I myself am waiting on delivery of a Klipsch RF-52 system, paired with a Denon 1907 receiver. Whatever you do, dont go BOSE.
I use Polk Audio Speakers and Onkyo Equiptment. I've had mine for 5 yrs and no prolbems. I will probably upgrade this year because i will be replacing my Hitachi Projection Tv with a Flat panel. I got all my Audio equiptment from Crutchfield Audio. Those guys know their stuff. They ain't cheap but the Customer service is well worth the Xtra $$$.

Clydesdale, I don't want to make this too complicated, but 'which speaker,' even within a good name brand, depends on the use in a home theater system. I love my circa 1993 Klipsch running off my similarly old Carver amp for my den stereo, but for a surround sound home theater set up [5.1 or 7.1, for example], it gets complicated, and the pros even use test dvds to tune the set up to fit the room. If your friend wants to keep it simple, I've heard good things about the reasonably priced Onyko 'home theater in a box' systems, with the receiver, subwoofer and other 5.1 or 7.1 channel speakers. Worth a look -
