I wonder if Mac monitors will work for you? I am serious. Love the thing. I have a 22 inch and it beats the Dell flat screens at work. That being said, the Dell flat screens are not bad either. That is just what I have been using, and they work well. An older CRT I had was a Sony, another good one, I thought.
I run a Mac, but I do not know if it will work in a non Mac application.

Work "Truck" 110 foot, 1999 Spartan/ LTI quint, Detroit Series 60, Allison auto. Work "Engine" 06 Pierce Arrow, Detroit Series 60, 475 horse, Allison Auto. Work Medic unit, 08 E450 6.0 by Northstar.
Best thing to do to start with is go to your local 'puter store and see what looks good to YOU. I am fussy and do a lot of graphic/video work and bought a 22" Samsung with a .24 pixel pitch, 800:1 contrast etc. etc. Certainly not what most people need; read more expensive than necessary for average use. Look at the warranty provided (as mentioned) this one has a full three years. Have a look and find one that looks good to you and then post back for feedback on that particular model.

I don't know what's on the market, but the price difference between a flat-screen and a CRT will be paid back pretty quickly with energy savings.

- DOT C-2 back end (also recommended)
- R-12 air conditioner converted to R-406a. Saved ozone and money
- 4.1:1 final drive converted to 3.4:1. Quieter, better mileage but it's a good thing I live in the flat Midwest.

i'll second the samsung brand. Nice quality build and nice picture.

I would look at NewEgg's site for information and feedback. They are an excellent company to deal with when it comes to computer parts and equipment. NewEgg

I was in a Sony factory reconditioned store a couple of weeks ago. They had a reconditioned $799 17" LCD monitor for $179 with a guarantee. You may be able to pick up a good deal if you can find a factory reconditioned (sony, samsung, etc) store near you.

well thats all on your needs and uses for home computer use id not go higher than 24 and not spend more than a grand
but if you wish to go realy cool get 34 in plasma tv and hook up to it with a s-video ready video card
but any tv can hook up to it so you could have a large projector showing over an entire wall but that would be upwards of 11k

I have two 19" lcd's that sit side by side. It was something like $330 for both. I know you want bigger, but I prefer to use multiple monitors because I have several things going on at once. I also have a tv tuner in my computer so I sometimes use one as a tv and work on the other.

I will third or fourth... whatever were at now on the Samsungs... I have a 21" that I use daily... Very nice... very sharp..
two key factors on lcd monitors...
Response Time (lower the better) 2-5ms
and
Contrast Ratio... Higher the better 700:1 - 1000:1
Contrast is really big in my book... a low contrast monitor will seem dull and dingy in appearance.

Dual monitor setup at work 10-12 hours a day and no complaints. Personally I would much rather have a dual monitor than one very large, the designers here have one widescreen (24" or so) and I would much rather have dual monitors
