Need help on vandalized truck

Yeah my neighbor and I got the tail gates of our trucks spray painted with white paint.

If there is a reasonable method of removal vice paying a body shop I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks folks....

Ya might give WD-40 a try.

I know detailers that swear by it for removing bugs and tar (without harming the auto paint)....................maybe it would work on spray paint too (as long as it's not oil based).

You can probably just wipe it off with some type of solvent. You will be surprised how tough the OE paint is.

I'd sure check with a body and paint shop guy before getting any lacquer thinner near it. I no nothing about modern paint/clearcoat but there's a lot milder stuff around than lacquer thinner that will damage original paint.

I agree you need to know what paint is on it before touching it with a soulvent. You are also correct about the wax helping out. If you are still uncertain after researching,a safe approch would be try the wax and or cleaner you have been useing. If that doesn't remove the spray,Go with a rubbing compound (hand or machine depending on your skill) which will remove it in layers. Just before all the spray is gone, switch to a polishing compound and finish up with your wax. A good detail guy can take care of it also. To the vandals, May your mother run from under your front porch and severly bite your legs and hands.

I decided to withdraw my comments. It's been my experience in the past that there would be no problem. However, if others disagree and have had problems I certainly wouldn't want to be the one responsible for someone screwing up their car/truck. I hope you get it fixed without to much trouble.
