i just wanted to get everyones thoughts on the NGS/NEW GENERATION STAR tester...im looking at the AUTOENGINUITY but im thinking i would prefer to have the smaller handheld device instead of taking the laptop out to the truck with me... that way i could leave it under the seat..
I wish I had one. But not cheap. A few years ago when it was also branded as the Ford Rotunda NGS, every Ford tech had to have one - or at least access to one. It was the only scanner that would access all the various computers in our PSDs and pull all the codes you might need to know about. Also it would give you access to the ABS module so you could calibrate the speedo.
If you get the basic NGS Mach II with Ford software, let us know how much it cost you.
Maybe you can find an older model with Ford software for a lot less money?
I haven't determined the difference between the Mach II and XL models, but you should probably find out before you spend that much money.

Cleveland, Ohio: Hickok Inc. announced today that the MY 2009 software update due for release later this year will be the final update for the New Generation Star (NGS) diagnostic system. The classic NGS has been a mainstay tool in both the Dealership and Aftermarket for servicing all Ford Motor Company vehicles since its introduction in 1992. Hardware limitations and expanding vehicle systems have been cited as the reason for this change and the final update.
Replacing the NGS is the NGS Mach II that provides the same vehicle coverage from 1984 through current model year with the same full Dealership capabilities. Also offered is the NGS for PC software package, which provides the same proprietary code diagnostics for model years 1996 through current model year. For more information contact Hickok Inc. at 1-800-342-5080 or visit our website at Hickok, Inc. - Quality Service Innovation Value.
So maybe skip the XL and buy the new Mach II instead? Unless you can find the XL at a bargain price.
everybody's got jokes hunh ? good one EX... im gonna give them a call just to see what they say.. thanks smokey. im still thinkin ill just buy a mini-laptop and the AE software..
