Re: no dipstick on 2007 expedtion tran's

I'm not so sure its a new idea.

Our 2000 MBZ doesn't even have a dipstick for the engine oil. Just a readout on the dash.

Replied to your other thread, it's nothing new, I've started seeing it (maybe I should say not seeing) about 6-7 years ago at least.

Re: no dipstick on 2007 expedtion tran's

I have never experianced it but I think the dipstick is in the drain plug, If I understood it correctly you have to unscrew the inner portion of the plug and it has a stand pipe and when it just runs over its full. I may be way off here But that is what I read or heard a few years ago about the No dip stick thing.

Re: no dipstick on 2007 expedtion tran's

A guy I knew bought a BMW m3 a while back like an 02 or something. It was a theft recovery so it wasnt in the best shape but it was dirt cheap. It needed tranny fluid and we had to get it on a lift to add fluid. It went through a hole in the tranny pan. You just filled it up till it ran out. They are just making it so you can't work on your car anymore and have to take it to a shop.

Re: no dipstick on 2007 expedtion tran's

Dipsticks on auto transmissions are on the endangered species list.
If it doesn't leak out and is seen then it is still inside.
Manual transmissions have always had not dipstick so it shouldn't be such a shock.

The other reason to limit access is that the fluid slection is no longer simple. There are something on the order of 10 different ATF's out there for current cars and some of the reason for no dipstick is to force the tech to look at gearbox where they normally place some precautions for fluids.
