Power Steering/Brakes

I have a 2001 F 350 PSD. Today I lost the Power Steering & Brakes. My mechanic said it is probally the hydro-booster or it could be the power steering unit or both and there is no way of telling which one with out replacing. He is starting with Hydro with crossed fingers. He also said if one goes the other soon follows usually Ps unit. I've been dealing with this guy for 30+ years and he's always been right and very fair. I would like to here some comments on problem.
