Question about AOL E-mail reader

A friend that has been an AOL user for many years has been forwarding quite a few emails to me and while the email messages are ok I get tired of the way his forwarded messages come through. When he forwards a message the message comes through as a .eml attachment which must be opened. He was unaware of this until I complained. I suggested he look for a switch to select how messages are forwarded but he can't find one. Does the AOL mail reader forward email messages as a .eml attachment as default with an option to forward as text or HTML or is if fixed in the attachment mode with no options. If it has options where does he go to find it? I know Yahoo mail gives the option of attachment or text mode. My reader does not offer an attachment mode but has selection between text and HTML.

Thanks for any help you can give.
