remote car starter

Ive been looking for a remote car starter for my sisters 2002 F-150 Lariat for christmas. She has a friend that has a Ford one that was on an expedition(dont know the year). I was wondering how these are and if they are better than the aftermarket ones. I have been thinking aftermarkets since they would come with all the instructions. The ford one had no instructions and has a bunch of spade connectors.
Which one would better, easier, last longer?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Re: remote car starter

I have used several brands of auto start systems since they first came out. Without a doubt the dei units IMHO are the best going. The range is unreal and have in my 2 vans and pickup. I would always solder the connections and cover when done. Hope this helps....

What is a code alarm? What is it you dont like about it? There is a sticker on it that says pc-32 controller required, what is that? Any idea?

Re: remote car starter

Code alarm is an after market brand of alarm systems ford just re labels it as "Ford Gold remote start".

The remotes are cheesy and wear through where they attach to the key ring.

and the "ford gold" remote start activates the alarm so you cant use the keypad on the door when you lock the truck with the key fob.

I figured ford would have had their stuff together and made the keypad deactivate the alarm system.

And the actual alarm system is a joke. The only thing that will set it off is opening a door when the truck was locked using the remote and you didn't Unlock it with the remote.

NO ACTUAL security.

And it was fairly overpriced for what it actually is.
