Route 66 Trip

Greetings All!

In two weeks, my girlfriend and I will be loading our motorcycles (Victory Touring Cruiser and Victory Vegas Low) onto my trailer and headed west to Missouri. We are going to leave the truck and trailer in Festus, MO. We will then be riding our bikes and following Route 66 to Las Vegas.

We are looking for advice on what to see, where to stop, and any other tips for our journey.

We are going to give ourselves 10 days to get to Vegas from Missouri, so time won't be an issue.

As always, thanks in advance for your help and expertise.

Marc

Kingman, AZ, and Oatman, AZ are each a must see. Route 66 from Kingman west to Oatman will be a lot of fun on bikes. It's scenic and twisty.

Seligman, AZ, is what I think the creators of the movie Cars used as their model for Radiator Springs.

A bit off Route 66 is Lake Havasu City, AZ. The Colorado River was dammed at Parker, AZ, and created Lake Havasu. The London Bridge was purchased, disassembled, and shipped to Lake Havasu. Then it was built in the middle of the desert. After it was completed they cut a canal through it to the lake. The bridge now goes to the island that was created. It's another interesting thing to see out there, even though it is off the route.

Twenty miles west of Kingman on I40 is what used to be the Ford Arizona Proving Ground. I spent a lot of time there, some of it exploring the area. It's between Kingman and Lake Havasu. When we went there some of us preferred Kingman, and some Lake Havasu.

i Live in kingman maybe i can give you some advise.Kingman is a small town with nothin really much to see but not bad to take a look around.oatman is right around twenty miles outside of town goin towards lake havasu. If you come from vegas you'll becoming right up highway 93.which will put you in the old part of kingman.if you take a right from where you came in it will take you out towards oatman and lake havasu.if you take a left you'll take I40 up through williams and seligman then flagstaff and so on either way comin through K-town can take you to a veriety of places.

An interesting place to spend the night is the Blue Swallow in Tucamcari NM. Interesting neon there and the room I was in was pretty decent,

Update:

The trip was AMAZING!

Had a small problem with my truck (broke a clamp on the turbo) on the way out west.

We rode over 3600 miles on our bikes (2004 Victory Touring Cruiser and 2009 Victory Vegas Low). No a single issue with either bike.

We truly enjoyed the American southwest and had the best time ever!

Kingman was a nice place to overnight. The road to Oatman was great riding, and the "wild donkeys" were a nice diversion.

And we did get engaged (at the Cadillac Ranch in Texas).

check out our blog: Two Vics on Route 66
