I pulled the rear seat out of the 00 we use. Used a camping mat and sleeping bags. Worked great.
I also have a 30" sleeper that goes on the bed rails with a small slider to get in and out of the cab.
If your interested I can part with it.

You still have to have the DOT minimum dimensions to get comfortable rest. When i hot-shoted after Katrina i slept in the back of my Crew Cab and it WAS not a good nights rest, believe me. Until Jan 1 05 we were not under DOT rules so i got away with it. Most of the time i just crawled back into the camper and slept which according to FEMA i was not supposed to do...........

If you don't have a legal sized sleeper on your truck you are not supposed to sleep in the truck if you are running commercially. If you're just a private citizen you can get away with whatever you want.
Never ever log sleeper berth time. Never ever tell an officer that you slept in the truck.
Just log your 10 hour break as off duty, line 1. Don't tell them that you slept anywhere, just state that you took 10 hours off duty and refer them to the entry in your log book.
That is what I do, or did when running hotshot.
This was suggested to me by an Iowa D.O.T. officer. He said that I didn't have to prove what I did on my time off, where I slept or if I slept, just that I had to have the break. As long as I appeared to be rested, coherent and in a general state of well being that was all that was required.
He also suggested that I take out my backseat and make a bunk back there to sleep in. I told him that it would not meet the dimensions required by the regs, that it would be about 68" long instead of 75". He said it would be fine and again stated that I needed to get it done. I questioned this enough that he finally got irritated and rather loudly and firmly told me that it would be fine and that I really should get it done......soon. So, I did the next time I got home.
Now will it pass in another state or even by another Iowa D.O.T. officer? Who knows, but it sure is alot more comfortable than trying to sleep in the backseat.
I just removed the backseat. Made a frame out of osb and used angle iron brackets to bolt the frame to the floor using the original seat mount holes in the floor.
Then made the lid or top again out of osb, about 34" front to back and from door panel to door panel, hinged it in the rear next to the back wall of the cab so that the whole top raises up. Laid a 4" thick piece of foam on the top, then a thick sleeping bag over that and I keep a couple of blankets in there too. That's it. Pretty simple, cheap to make, I've got lots of storage underneath the top and it's really pretty comfortable.
I'm 6'3" and about 260lbs and sleep pretty good on it.
