srw to drw conversion

Not sure where to put this so I guess here is as good as any place. I guess I am looking for some answers. I am trying to convert my dads 87 F-250 2wd farm truck to DRW. We are going to put a 9'x8' flat bed on it and would like it to be DRW for less soil compaction in the fields. Opted to buy a DRW 10.25 axle rather than get adapters as this truck would be handling a fairly good size payload. I bought the axle from a guy who told me it came off a 87 f-350 2wd. my first mistake is that I assumed it would bolt right up. however I did notice that the spring perches were narrower by about a half inch. Latter I found out they were also set about 4 inches to narrow for the springs on my dads truck. I ground them off and welded them back on in a suitable location. and after I have redone the axle (new seals, ring & pinion, breaks) I go to put the dully wheels and tires on and find that the wheels rub on the springs. so My question is why is this happening were DRW trucks made with narrower frames, were there special DRW axles made for cretin applications. or is it posible it came of an E-350 and I have been had. it does have 3.5' break shoes rather than the 3" on my SRW. and is longer than my SRW 10.25 by about 1.5". any help or answers are greatly appreciated

The F-350 DRW Cab & Chassis and F-350 DRW Flatbed trucks have a narrower frame and axle than the F-350 DRW pickup trucks.

What Dave said.

It sounds like the F-350 donor truck was a chassis cab, while your F-250 is a pickup. Pickup frames are wider than chassis cab frames by about 3.6". For example, for 2007 model year, the frame at the rear of the truck was 34.1" wide on a chassis cab, but 37.7" on a pickup.

thanks for the input guys. I guess I am kind of screwed in this case I still need another axle. the only thing I really gained is a better set of rear breaks. this shows it pays to do you research before hand as well as measure to make sure things will fit properly before you spend the money
