Starter problems...?

Somebody please help. I am a newbie to diesels and have done all that I can think to do. I have replaced the starter and the alternator, and still having problems. When I turn the key, I hear one loud click, then nothing. But it doesn't always happen. Sometimes it starts right up, other times it won't start at all, and takes a good 60 tries before it catches. Was having alternator problems and drained the batteries a couple days ago, but the new altenator is in, and works beautifully. The starter is brand new, which leads me to believe it is not the starter. If you have any ideas let me know.. Thanks!

Heres an idea, replace the starter relay or solenoid, inexpensive & easy. Located on the inner fender.
