Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

I bought this place 9 years ago and at that time I decided to use some caulk between the tile floor and the one-piece tub and surround. It has cracked over the years. What is typically used between the floor and bottom of the tub. Please look at the pics. Sorry about the piece of my wife's hair, didn't see it when I took the pics.

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

i'd clean out the old caulking and go with a 100% silicon caulk. Theres not much else that i know of that will solve your prolbem. I have seen some stuff that is a Caulking tape . I have no experience with it, but When i remodeled our Master bath 2 yrs ago, i used the 100% silicon and it still looks as good as the day i applied it.

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

I would agree that it just needs to be cleaned out really well and recaulked. I've done quite a few of these, nothing hard just time consuming.

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

What do you recommend to clean it out? Any particular type of scraper? I assume caulk is the way to go and not grout, since it sort of needs to be flexible with the tub. Thanks

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

I just had to do mine a couple of weeks ago around the shower pan. I used a small chisel to carefully work the old grout out. After cleaning all the loose stuff up, I put down a bead of white silicone caulk all the way around the floor pan. You can use baby oil on a rag or paper towel to clean up any smudges.
btw, they make a dremel tool attachment to remove grout, but in your place, I would just try a small chisel. Just be careful not to gouge the tub, and be patient with the progress.

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

use a hook knife to clean it out. vac it out clean and use mild bleach to get out any mold and let it dry. use penoseal or silicone type 2. any questions let me know.

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

I generally use a 5 in 1 painters tool, razor blade, and hook knife. Anything you can use that will fit in there. Also you can try to cut it along the bond surface (tub to tile) and pull it out in chunks.. sometimes it will come out in large pieces.

I think that Lowes or H/D carry a set of steel picks (like a dentist uses only slightly larger). They work great--especially for removing old caulk and silicone caulk.

Re: Tile and bathroom guys, what do you recommend to fix this?

Me, I'd use a product called Pro-Flex by Geocel. I just hate silicons, period. If, or I should say when you have to do it again it will be much eaiser to remove the PF than the silicone. PLUS, if for some reason you have to paint, paint won't stick to silicone.

That's what did when we tiled our bathrooms. A real wide bead.
