What is that tacky stuff

What is that tacky stuff that is applied to mailings that holds a post card or membership card to a letter? You know, the stuff that looks like snot but just peels off. It's not rubber cement, although it may be some kind of derivative. Does anyone know what it is and where I can get some?

Ask a local full-service print shop. The kind with union journeymen printers, not a copy shop staffed by high-school kids and beauty-school dropouts.

I think it's called "padding compound", because its original use was making pads of paper by smearing it on one edge of a stack of sheets, but I haven't been inside a print shop in decades.

I used some clear "removable weather stripping" (silicon caulk) a few years ago under a cement cover that I need to be able to lift up in the future. It appeared to be the same exact stuff that comes in the mail. I believe that I got it at HD right next to all of the other silicon caulk cartridges. I don't recall the brand. I found some just now made by Krylon, Season Seal, Removable Weather Stripping.
