Where can I find local rainfall data updated daily?

My job sometimes requires me to drive several hundres miles to work in the field somewhere. Locations I've been going to have a private weatherstation that updates daily to a website. I now have at least one new location that does not have a weatherstation. It's a big deal to drive 3 hours and then find out it's too muddy to get in the field. Is there any sort of online service, pay or free, that shows rainfall data and is updated at least daily, if not more often?

We're doing good to be near a town with a post office. I'm not sure how close a rainfall recording location may be to where I'm working, but it has to be better than 200 miles which is how far I am away.

Through work I have access to NOAA weather stats and they show daily data but they only update something like once a month and sometimes run several months behind.

I can find rainfall data online for the past 24 hours (in a radar map type format), but I would really like to see the past week at least to get an idea of how wet or dry the ground may be.

Thanks,

http://www.weatherunderground.com/

Do a search for city, zip. Study the site and you can find rainfall in terms of rate of fall per hour.

Re: Where can I find local rainfall data updated daily?

Yup, thats it..........

http://www.wunderground.com/

put in the zip code you want the weather for, scroll to the bottom of the page and you should see several local areas nearby the town you put in the zip for with current weather conditions.

The info is uploaded from private (backyard type) home weather stations to the server over the internet in real time.

Re: Where can I find local rainfall data updated daily?

Found it! Thanks for the help, that's a pretty good site. Lot more info than The Weather Channel online. Closest stations are about 15 miles north and south of the property, so pretty good.

Thanks again,
