I currently have a '05 F550 4wd with a 11' flatbed. I use it to haul lumber on the bed and with a gooseneck trailer. The truck has 75,000 miles on it. I've had an itch to trade up to a new 550 but was wondering how much diff there would be. MPG?, PullingPower?? Also thought about dropping down to a 4.30 rear.
Am I bassicaly buying the same truck, but newer?? Or will I go "WOW, this is a nice truck!!!" Normally, a couple/three years newer makes for a much better truck......

Want a truck that will WOW you particularly when you drive it 500K between builds and takes everything you throw at it?
International 4400 low pro with a DT-466 300HP and a 7 speed Fuller. Trust me on this you will never look back and never look at the Blue Oval again.
You can get it in work "truck trim" or you can also get it in a "gussied up" crew cab with leather, power seats, windows, mirrors etc. your choice. It will run circles around ANY F-550 AND you get to get it serviced my mechanics not Taurus parts changers.
You will get 10 mpg hauling or towing just about anything. Top speed is where you chose to set the computer, we recommend nothing above 70, possibly 75. We set ours at 65 but we have retards driving for us.

Not the lo-pro model, but yes, the regular 4400 has a 6x4 option. Click here.

Thought about all that, in fact, we do have a Int 440, but sometimes I don't need that big of a truck. Also, there are a few times when my wifey drives and she absolutely refuses to drive a bigger truck than the 550. Gotta keep here happy.....

Oh the old my "wife won't drive it" story! Just kidding.

I just found out Intl makes a 4200 4X4, it has the 6.0, but since rated at only 220hp..will probably last longer..and even if it frags..easy to fix. Obviously most I think would prefer the DT466, but I don't see any versions that are 4X4.
Doesn't look that much bigger than an F350 if you get the short bed. Badass.
Isnt the "new DT466" all "Maxx-Forced Up" (by that I mean complicated alot over the tough-as-nails DT466/DT466E? I dont know if this whole Maxx-Force Emissions stuff will still result in a 500,000 mile, low-trouble engine.
I know my buddy with a Rollback Int. DT466 has 414,000 miles and still no rebuilt. Its a 1999. He has had a main seal or two need fixing, but he just did it himself. He said he's keeping it till it is nonsense to drive. lol I can just see it with a million miles too. He takes real good care of it.
I just dont know if the new stuff is as good as the older versions...is it?

To get the DT in a 4x4, you will need to jump to the 7000 series. A LOT bigger than the 350!!

No but we own 12 of them. For those that have never owned one, they really go 500K on a build and you can do an -in-frame-build in one night for about $3500 including a rebuilt head. And then go for another 500K. All of ours are tremsndously reliable. We did have a dog DT-360 for a few months. We tried a GMC with a Cat and Allison ONCE (dog) a Freightliner with a 5.9 (OK but not a DT.)
For those that are WAY over reaching their F-350's a 4300 or 4400 is an option. for those that really need a F-450 or 550 you should really look at a truck.
If ya have the bucks and want to pull a big expensive 5th wheeler the RXT is quite cool.
