08 6.4 Radiators

Has Ford fixed the radiator leak problems on the 6.4s? We have two 08's. The one with 42000 miles is getting radiator #4 right now and the one with 32000 miles is waitng to go next for radiator #4. The dealer gave me a little static on the 08 with 42000 miles because it was beyond the base warranty, but the service manager thought Ford would cover it.

How long will Ford keep putting radiators in? Anyone?

did you get the venturi-T recalls done? Also is this a F450, even if it isn't I would be checking those thermostats to see if they are stuck as well.

I think that is the same question we all are wondering about. They are being very easy about it but i have heard of cases where they said (and i assume they is the dealer and not ford) that if the venturi T has been done then no more warranty radiators. Now i think this was a dealer decision because many have had their rads replaced (in some cases) several times after the T went in. I never understood what the T was supposed to do when there was a clamping/manufacturing/design issue with the radiators??? I still have the original rad in my truck but it is a commuting truck no towing (yet) so i wonder if they guy that suggested the failures were do to flexing of the truck was correct. If so then we are talking about a design issue with the radiator support frame...

Why does it matter if it is a F450?

I do know that the radiators are on national back order right now. Might mean there is a redesign happening. Hope nobody loses one right now....

Wow - funny that you should mention this - I just had mine changed yesterday. I had noticed a tiny spot (2-3" diameter) every day for about a month now. I took it in yesterday for my 25K oil/filter change and mentioned it. The Service Manager said "Yep, it's a common problem on the early 6.4's - we've got a couple in stock. I'll cover a rental car for you for the day and we'll change it out today!"

I got a little worried about the "pipe work" underneath my truck but agreed. I walked out back and talked to their Diesel Specialist (who I've spoken with on several occasions) and he said "Don't worry about it - they never come out here and look and I'm a diesel nut myself so I'm not going to say anything. As a matter of fact, could you tell me where you got that pipe and tuner combo to get rid of the DPF? I want to do mine!" I gave him the website info for RCD and Innovative and he said "Thanks". Anyway, I left there at 9:00 AM and they called me at 2:30 and said it was done. Checked when I got home - you could tell it was a new one. Now let's see if it lasts and is really an upgraded model. I asked him about it and he said he's replaced many but only once on each vehicle. He believes they fixed the issue anyway - we'll see.

The mechanic that did mine said the same thing. He also said that the trucks that have had 2-4 replacements it was a cause of something else.

Mines going in tomorrow for 2nd radiator. There is a tsb now that the Hyper extended thermostat creates the repeated problem. We'll see. Others hav said the egr valve is the problem. But the service person said Ford didn't know about this one for sure until recently.
