Dear Jaren,
Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center
regarding the availability of our 2008 Super Duty's.
There are a great number of variables that may affect production scheduling and
availability. Option packages, special powertrain combinations, as well as
possible delivery delays of components supplied from vendors, are all factors to
be considered when scheduling a vehicle's assembly. Other variables that may
also affect the availability date of your desired vehicle include certification
and quality inspections, and transportation of the vehicle to the specified
dealership. As such, it is not possible to guarantee a specific ordering date.
We consider the satisfaction of our customers one of our most important
objectives. If you have any other inquiries or concerns, please feel free to
contact us and we will be happy to address them for you.
Sincerely,
Mike

I called Willey Ford in UT who seems to have the best pricing over the "Market Adjustments" I am finding to be common here in WA on 06's and was informed that order books should be opened within 30 days with delivery late Jan early Feb. No confirmation on pricing, but he felt it would be roughly $1,500 more than 06/07 trucks.
I know they want to get them out as soon as possible since the GM models are already out in the new body style and seem to be selling pretty well. Frankly, however, I am glad they are not rushing them out.
Looking forward to it, hopefully it'll be in January. This model originally was planned as an 07 from what I understand, but I believe engine specifics/testing wasn't finalized in time.
This will be my first diesel, hopefully the kinks will be worked out prior to release. Currently have an 05 Expedition with a custom installed Ford Harley Davidson S.C. on it to pull a 26 ft boat, but after getting a new heavier boat last summer I don't think the 1/2 frame, brakes & trans are the best choice for pulling it.
The engine not being ready in time was just marketing spin for the delay. The engine is ready now.
The real reason for the delay could be any one of the following:
More time to develop the final vehicle calibration (one of the sticky points with the 6.0L).
More time to develop the aftertreatment system and strategy.
More time to work out bugs in the vehicle.
Time the release to coincide with the release from the competition.
The 08s will be more expensive than the 07s, which may lead to a drop in sales, particularly if they introduced their new model before the competition.
The profit on 06/07s is more than the 08s. Delaying the new truck allowed for more profit to be made.
Delaying the truck allows for changeover to occur during holiday shutdown period, reducing costs.
The delay is probably caused by the fact that the closer that they can get to Jan 1, the fewer warranty repairs they will get for emissions failures due to LSD being used in areas that are behind in rolling out ULSD.
There is just no reason to risk it this time. As long as it's out by Jan, they don't face fines for not meeting emissions. Any earlier is rolling the dice that the old fuel won't still be out there.

I say don't rush them. Let them take their time, if it's March then it's March. I'd rather it be March and have fewer issues if any then to rush it and have it in January with new, more complex issues.
Like us, I don't think Ford wants to go through what they did with the release of the 6.0L engine.
I don't think Ford would have any issues with regluations either. The '07 model year truck has the '06 engine in it, which I would think they could sell well into next year.
As for fuel, I just got fuel today at a station that sells a good deal of Diesel to all the trucking companies and they still don't have ULSD. Unless it isn't labled yet, they are still selling LSD which is what the label on the pump states.
With everything that we have read about not using LSD in an ULSD engine, I for one would want to make good and sure that all the LSD was out of the tanks...

Oh that fuel is out there by now, you can tell by the nauseating smell coming out of diesel exhausts nowadays. Just like following a big truck or bus in Europe.

I have only seen one station with ULSD and that was on a trip, all others I have run across are still LSD.
The Chevron's out here have the ULSD sticker on the pumps now. They claim all shipments are of ULSD, but they are mixing the LSD with the ULSD, so within a couple months it should be clear of the LSD. Sounds like the wrong approach to introducing ULSD into the market.
I thought the refiners started producing ULSD back in June? By October I don't think any shipments were going out except ULSD. Regardless of what the pump may say, it would seem that it has to be ULSD or at least a blend of LSD and ULSD as the tanks in the ground get replenished.
