08 F-350 Harley Davidson 6.4L

I ordered a F-350 HD fully loaded this past Friday. Should be at my local dealer in 12 -14 weeks?? Ordered 3.73 LS gear, What MPG should I expect? 1-2 MPG less than a F-250?

Anybody know anything about Real Power, offered by Ford Commercial Truck Parts. It's an A/C generator mounted between the frame rails of the truck with a Power outlet box in the bed of the truck. I will sometimes tow my Lightning to the track and a 7 x 16 Enclosed Motorcyle trailer that has a 13000 BTU Heat / A/C unit on the roof. I have a Breaker panel in the enclosed trailer with a 220V cord. Thought it may come in handy to have a Generator permanently mounted in the bed.

What you guys think? Thanks

Real Power

There is no longer an "F-350 HD" available. If you mean F-350 DRW with the standard 3.73 open rear axle, then it should get slightly less MPG than an identically-equipped F-250, only because it weighs more and has more drag from the two extra tire patches on the road. However, MPG is a lot of "luck of the draw". Some F-350 DRWs get better MPG than some F-250s, and vice versa.

If you meant F-350 SRW, then there should be no difference in MPG compared to an identically-optioned F-250.

There are two flys in the ointment.<ul>[*] If you ordered the truck with automagic tranny, then you had to also order the "PTO provision". On stick shifters, the PTO Provision is standard, i.e., free.[*] Be prepared for sticker shock. The small Real Power generator puts out 12 KW. For example, oil field well-service trucks with PTO-powered generator, air compressor, winch, etc., are common around here. They first install a PTO and hydraulic pump, plus tanks for the required hydraulic fluid. Then they install the generator that is powered by a hydraulic motor. The generator can be mounted almost anywhere, but most of them are in a side compartment of a service body. Some are under the frame of the truck, similar to the Real Power unit.

I was told like 4K for the unit and 1K for the install from dealer, I can save a bunch on the install and have it done myself on the side with a Ford Tech friend. I ordered the PTO option, just in case.

Still expensive, But, I need to buy a portable generator anyway, the ones I was looking at cost 3 - 4 K.
Thanks

I'm not getting a dually. I just ordered a F-350 HD SRW, it is listed in the Ford brochure, You can buy a 08 F-250 or F-350 Harley Davidson SRW.

Smokey is not wrong, just a little confused on the abbreviations. He is thinking HD as in Heavy Duty, not H-D as in Harley-Davidson.

As for the Real Power units, they are not cheap but work great. The have been well tested by both Ford and Real Power on the 08's. Ford had a couple of the pre-production 08's equipped with Real Power units.

Your right, I figured out he was talking about Heavy Duty and edited my previous post. I met the District Dlue Diamond Parts Rep. at my local Ford parts dept. yesterday, we had a long talk about the real power units. My local parts dept. Mgr. said he would sell me one at cost. So I'm thinking about it.

Thanks

Re: 08 F-350 Harley Davidson 6.4L

It sounds like a nice feature, but for the size of the load, is probably overkill, most PTO,s that I know of raise the idle. I would think that a single or twin cylinder would use less fuel than any eight, let alone the noise. unless you needed a big generator. just a thought.

That's a good point, I may just get a portable Honda and save some money..

Hey Kyle, What's up...I've been fine...Got a BigDog chopper motorcycle a couple of years ago, been doing the biker scene a little bit and attending some local drag racing. Got a few local good friends into the Outlaw Pro Mod scene, Blown Alcohol Hemi cars...Haven't been traveling to any NMRA or FFW races this year.

I'm finally stepping into the Diesel arena, I need a new truck to tow my enclosed bike trailer with. It's gotta be a Ford Diesel.

If I come up that way, I'll give you a call. That was one night to remember, plus the burnout contest at the hotel...We had a awesome time.

I got to call the dealer and check on my order. How about the KTP plant, will it affect it?
