6.4L Power Stroke Engine and Drivetrain Discussion of the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2008 Super-Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.

08 F350 vs. F250 Height

Hi - another newbie question here..

The specs say the overall height of 08 F350 SRW 4x4 CC is 1.1" higher than the same F250 (81.0" vs. 79.9"). However, the loadfloor height specs say the F350 is 2.8" higher than the F250 (37.3" vs. 34.5"). I'm sure that I am over-researching this stuff, but I am just curious why the loadfloor height can be 2.8" higher but yet the truck itself is only 1.1" higher. Seems like the distance between the loadfloor and top of truck would need to be the same in both the F250 and F350. What am I missing here re: the reason for the difference?

If the rear end is jacked up higher on the F350, then because of the angles involved across the length of the truck, I could easily see the loadfloor height (probably measured at the back lip of the bed) being affected more than the overall height of the truck (probably measured at the back of the cab roof.) Pythagorean theorem and cosines and all that.

My understanding is that the 250 has a 2" block and the 350 has a 4" block. The 4" block in the rear would not raise the cab height by a lot since the block is in the rear. However, it would raise the bed directly above the axle 2" and just as the previous poster said the back of the bed would be slighlty higher than that due to angles.

Thanks! So from what you say, is it correct that the loadfloor is not perfectly level on the F350? Because if the 4" blocks raise the back of the loadfloor without affecting the cab height too much, it seems as though the back of the loadfloor will be higher than the front of the loadfloor due to the angles involved (unless the entire loadfloor/bed is attached to the cab at a different height position than in the F250). Having never owned a truck before, it seems surprising that a truck would be built with a bed that is not totally level. Then again, with those few inches distributed across the entire bed length, the resulting "unlevelness" may be no big deal.

When you load up a one ton truck to anywhere near its limit, it won't be so unlevel any more. The load height is assuming no load yet, I bet. I'm sure you've seen the other end of this problem: minivans that start out level but now have all kinds of stuff piled in the back and are dragging their rear bumper on the ground!

They lean foward which helps keep the water out as the seap holes are on the front end of the bed.This uneven look has opened up the door for many types of leveling kits to make the truck sit level.Look at my album to see the front end rake.... [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif[/img]

You know there's a giant gap between the tailgate and the bed too, right? Water flows out just fine on either end.
