08' F450 Gear Ratios

Does anyone know what gears they will be offering in the F450? I am planning on getting one. I have an 05' with 4.10's. Will something as high as a 3.73 be available in the 450? I need something higher than the 4.10 so I'm not screaming down the highway. Thanks

Re: 08' F450 Gear Ratios

It appears from information on the Ford site that the F450 will only be offered with 4.30's and 4.88's. So thats definitely not going to help you rolling down the x-way. But then again it is a F450, its made to move weight with a sacrifice in economy.

Re: 08' F450 Gear Ratios

You are lucky. The 450's used to be available with only the 4.88's. You should hear my truck at 80-85 mph. And just trying to run with Texas and LA traffic.

Re: 08' F450 Gear Ratios

The first F-450 (F-Superduty) in '88 only offered a 5.13 axle ration with the 7.3 diesel. The 460 got a 4.63. The F-450 diesel we had would turn 2700 rpm at 65 mph.

Re: 08' F450 Gear Ratios

when I at the texas fair, I looked at the tire size. I think it was
225/70 19.5 This size should give you 632 revs per mile. This compares to 642 revs per mile on the 235/85 16 stock F350. Looks like no help from the tires/wheels on the F450 with low rear. I am with you on the gearing. I like the truck but want at least a 4:10.
4:30 at current pump prices doesnt work for me especially if new 6.4 gets even less mpg.
