08 Tranny Shifting Problem is Adjustment Possible?

Hey all,

My 08 SD 250 CC 6.4L just turned 3k last week. First, I have to say I love the truck over my previous 00 SD 250 CC or my 03 Duramax 2500hd.

My problem is I hope a simple one. Sometimes when I put the automatic transmission into D it is like it is stuck between D and 3. I don't always notice it and I will be driving at highway speeds and the truck will begin downshifting and upshifting eractically. When I look at the shifter indicator the light is flashing between D and 3 very quickly.

I can quickly remedy the problem by pushing the shifter towards D slightly. I can also remedy the problem initially if I remember to kind of make sure the shifter is in D good when starting out by pulling it down and pushing it up slightly before taking off.

It is kind of like something may not be adjusted or aligned perfectly and it sets between the 2 gears. My question is has anyone else had this problem or just me. And does anyone know if it is a simple adjustment the dealer can perform?

Assuming the cable isn't kinked or damaged in some way, a tech can adjust the selector lever cable pretty easily.

Sure sounds like a gear position sensor problem. Trans computer only knows what gear to stop at if the input from sensor tells it the right thing. Time to go have a visit at your friendly Ford service dept.

Yea either crawl under and take a look for yourself or take it to the dealer and they can adjust it easy.

I don't think it is a sensor as I can manaully make the change with the shifter. It kind of feels like there is almost a little bump or gear slot between D and 3 that should not be there. I will be taking it in to the dealer here shortly but probably not for a few thousand more miles as I don't believe I am damaging anything insind the tranyy.

Thanks for all the replies.
