1 Week 2,000 miles later

So I have had my truck for 1 week tomorrow and have racked up 2k on it so far. Its a little more then I would usually do but I had alot of catch up to do while my 6.0 was in the shop. So my thoughts on the truck are this. The fuel milege.... terrible. Will it get better ? I really hope so. If the 6.4 is all its cracked up to be I will make it up on the backend with less downtime in the shop. The ride awesome. I absolutly enjoy driving it everyday. It turns brakes steers etc 1000% better then my 04 dually. Whatever they did it worked. The interior is another plus. The interior of a superduty was way overdue for a makeover. I love the fact that there are enough power outlets for all my electronics ( labtop, cb, etc) I love the center console , I really think you could fit a small child in there. 58k worth it?? Im not sure. Dont get me wrong I love the truck. but I will go out on a limb and say its a little overpriced. But I see nothing else out there to compare it to. I have had a couple regen's and I must say its a little weird but im sure it has its purpose. Last and most important , this single option could have possibly sold me on the truck. The mirrors!!! Hit a button and they fold in.!! If ford would have invented this 10 years ago I would be a few grand richer. So thats my rant I love my new truck.

Re: 1 Week 2,000 miles later

I like the folding mirrors also. I park my 08 F350 next to a Honda Accord inside a 16 foot garage door. It would be a real pain to fit it widthwise (easily, at least) without those folding mirrors.

Love 'em!
Gary

Re: 1 Week 2,000 miles later

I have just over 3200 miles on our 450 so far and I wholeheartedly agree with you, by far the best truck on the market for heavy towing. The ride and tight turning ability are wonderful. Considering our truck is geared with 4.88's, our on highway mileage at right near 13mpg and towing has been around 10mpg, I don't think that is bad at all. Of course I would love to see 20mpg on the highway but with emissions and the power this engine delivers, that is but a pipe dream. Ain't it silly that we burn more fuel to "save the planet". Wonder if that is what Al Gore is trying to do flying around in the G5? As for price paid, I know that I paid less for the great 450 than what some have paid for one ton diesels from GMC and Dodge.

I agree! Seems the only thing that could be better with this truck is the fuel mileage. Mine just turned over 1800 miles; my average mpg is only about 12, pulling a toyhauler is about 9. Even with the bad mileage, I'm still elated. My old 460 couldn't come close to this.

Re: 1 Week 2,000 miles later

680 miles on mine in first week.
Yesterday, I drove 300+ miles, at 70 to 80 mph.
Avg fuel econ was 15.7 mpg.
I think that is great on a brand new diesel at high speed.

Re: 1 Week 2,000 miles later

texrob,
With a full load of fuel and me (165 lbs.) my new 450 weighed 9100 lbs.
The first 750 miles registered 11 mpg all highway. My 350 DRW CC 7.3 would give 17 mpg. no load. Empty it weighed 7660 lbs.
