1571.9 miles and the fan clutch has gone batsh*t. It will not disengage. It started acting weird in the White Mountains on Saturday, would cycle randomly at 40MPH+. [I.e. LOUD]
This morning I start it up [about 30F out] the fan clutch is engaged straight away. [censored]? I get in after it warms up, fuel up and no change. Drive to the dealership and after about an 20 minutes he delivers the bad news. The clutch is toast and need to be replaced. Should have it tomorrow. Worse news, damned near the entire front part of the engine compartment has to be removed to get to it from what he explained. Radiator, Inter cooler, etc.
Oh yea, BTW, the truck has the snow plow package so it has the extra heavy duty clutch or something.
WOOHOO!!! Fun for me....LOL
Other than that the truck has been excellent to be honest though.
I'm in the same boat. I've been told by members of the forum that the increased cycling of the fan is due to the plow package. I can by that but not when the outside temps are 0C and the fan howls immediately on start up. Acceleration (slow or fast, doesn't matter) kicks the fan into overdrive.
Truck went in today to replace clutch and DPF. We'll see. All I can say is it did not behave like this when new and pulling 15k lbs in 30+ weather.

It is a Job 1 from what I know.
I drop it off tomorrow as the service guy said they should have part by 10am. Heh...We will see.
I was just taking a drive Saturday after I went to Newport. My wife's grandmother was in Lincoln babysitting but I turned around before Campton. The fan was seriously loud.
I got mine in August from Best Ford in Nashua. I am in Merrimack.
Got the truck back with the new fan clutch. Seems fine.
They cracked the upper fan shroud when they were putting everything back together. They did tell me though and it is ordered. When it comes in they are going to put the new one on.

Hope it resolves my issues. Truck has been in all week for the clutch and dpf replacement. Ford is having my dealer dance through hoop after hoop removing and visually checking various systems to try to conclude why the tailpipe is black. I would have thought at this point it's pretty obvious, but apparantly not. There are a number of consumable pieces, i.e. gaskets, rings, that Ford is requiring be sent back to prove that the diagnostic work was completed.

They checked my DPF and said it was not cracked. They said that the load created by the fan clutch being bad was likely a cause for my tailpipe to become slightly sooted. Is this a plausible explanation?
No, not to me. If that were the case you would have the same situation (with a good fan clutch) while towing a small trailer, having a load in the bed or anything that would place a light load on the engine. Sounds to me like the Service Rep is blowing smoke himself! (or is that smoking blow?) It also depends on what your, and the service reps, definition of "slightly sooted" is. Make sure you keep the paperwork for any possible future legal work you might need or for leverage later with the dealer, and keep an eye on the tailpipe. If it doesn't stay clean, take it back.
just my 2¢ worth.
