15k miles and engine coolant is empty and pegged on high heat.

Was driving on a 12 hour drive on I-5 and noticed 5-6 hours into the drive my heater was not warm, it was actually freezing on 90 degrees, I'm not mechanic at all so I had no idea what was wrong and just put on my jacket. Well, I went to sleep that night and woke up in the morning and drove it another 6 hours, I was driving and all the sudden out of the corner of my eye or a chime went off or something I noticed the engine heat pegged high all the way and then the light came on so I read the manual to find out what was going on after pulling over. So, I find out that at 15k miles my truck needed engine coolant. I left the truck running while I added coolant after bleeding pressure off slowly. Is this normal? I made it another 1500 miles to where I was going with no problems. What do you guys think? I've been having really strange luck with this truck so far. Its a 2008 F-450 4x4.

Sounds as if you have joined the blown radiator club!
Radiators built before 8/6/07 have had issues....BIG issues.

Anything from leaking from around where the trainie cooler lines enter it to the passanger side tank not being crimped on tight enough... get it to a dealer.

Re: 15k miles and engine coolant is empty and pegged on high heat.

I have had a toyota for 3 years and its the best truck ever, best design, nothing hangs down below the frame, power, suspension, all the best, its a 2005 Tacoma, I just can't say enough good things about it, I put air suspension on it, and its the best truck ever, however pulling stuff in the mountains I needed a more powerful truck, that's the ford for sure. You just would expect they would use quality things on this truck, the damn things are supposed to be built bullet proof, and not have anything cheesy to fail, however time and time again, I see they are having stupid problems. Some anal retentive engineer grease monkey needs to start going through these trucks with a fine tooth comb before they go to market.

Ok, let me understand your Ford broke down and now you want to take the opportunity to enlighten us all here how great Toyota is, I don't get it, if I was down, all I would care about is getting up and running. Sell it as soon as it comes out of the shop, save the stress.......

You would think with the 10 million miles of testing before release they woud have caught that one.

I agree, but thats assuming they were testing with the same batch of radiators built by the same company providing parts for the build line?

Ok, there is no question that there has been a supplier problem with radiators with the new 6.4. No one questions that, lets go to number two widespread problems with the engine......waiting on responses.......and don't give me any of the regen crap, all of them have that stuff........Waiting, any bad injectors?. Any blown headgaskets? Any significant leaks? Any trannys gone down? Waiting......Seems to me, a victim of the 6.0 debacle, that the 6.4 is doing very, very well..........

Re: 15k miles and engine coolant is empty and pegged on high heat.

From what I've seen in Jap trucks in the past I wouldn't buy one.. Frames rusting, whole bodys rusted out including bumpers..
Who would make a truck that the frame rusts and breaks in half as well as body rust? Not USA.. They don't have the energy at all to make quality steel. No coal or oil.
My sons B2 Nisson did..my best friends Toyota Runner rusted out completely it was worth nothing at trade in. My 85 same year GMC was still going strong. And passed inspection with flying colors.
When I was a Capt. out of the Cape I worked with Yamaha's,Mercs. The V6 Merc's never broke down but the Yami's did often.

This 6.4 is doing very well.
