I apprecaite the information. Additionally the factory tighten the drain plug so tight I was concerned that I'd round off the head of the plug. I decided to let Ford do the first oil change to the tune of $99.00. That won't happen again.

These truck are so easy to do a oil change on its silly to pay someone to do it. At least when I do it I know things are done right & NOT overtightened!!

Get a fumoto drain valve and you'll never have to worry about rounding the plug again, or dropping the plug in the pan, or overfilling the container, etc. Just open it and colse it as needed. Best $14 I ever spent on my truck.

be sure to coat the new o-ring with oil before you screw the cap back on. 36MM is the size socket you want. Don't overtorgue.

The only way I would consider putting one of the Fumoto drain valves on my truck would be if I dropped the pan and welded in a new bung for it at the back of the pan where the valve would not be totally exposed to being hit by all kinds of stuff off road.

Have you even gotten underneath your truck to do your own oil change? If you've got 4WD, then by the time something hits your oil pan, you've already lost your front axle. There is no danger of you shearing off that valve before damaging anything else.

I most certainly have spent a considerable amount of time under the truck. You seem to be overlooking the realities of off road travel, where the front axle and wheels frequently drop off a ledge and what is behind them can readily be hit or scraped along the ledge. This is particularly likely in these long wheel base vehicles. The Fumoto valve would readily change an annoying dent in the oil pan into a lost oil and stranded truck situation.
