Went to the ford dealer with stiff steering problems. They replaced the steering pump and told me that the truck was still not steering correctly and that they wanted to check the alignment. If they found and alignment problem the cost would be $79.00. Truck has 15,000 mi.
If no alignment problem is found they want to do further warranty work on the truck, what I don't know. Questions, this truck has not been offroad and no hard road conditions, how could the alignment be off? Is the 4WD model that sensitive to road conditions? Any of you had alignment problems?

I think if this was me I would be looking for anouther dealer
You took it in for a problem and they replaced the steering pump since that wasnt bad does that mean you pay for the pump
If you like the dealer have a talk with the service manager and let him know your not happy
They need to fix it at no coat thats why you have a warranty
You know in hard times like this I never understood why dealers do things like that....
Alignment is considered normal wear and tear, hit a pothole just right and you could mess that up. That being said, I don't see how alignment would make for stiff steering unless it is so out of whack, but then you'd be seeing irregular wear in the tires.

My truck has been on the alignment rack 13 times and 3 of those I paid for out of pocket because I took the truck to independent shops to try and fix my problem. The problem I have/had was a severe pull to the left, steering wheel ****ed to the left and the truck is very twitchy on the road. The dealership did several alignments out of their pocket to try and correct this problem. Then they called in a FSE and he said there was nothing wrong with the alignment. I disagreed and asked the dealership to look at the truck yet again for something else since alignments weren't fixing the problem. They told me the FSE said not to perform anymore alignments or work related to alignments. I said *** and started a DSB process to have the truck bought back if they couldn't fix it. In the mean time that is when I had 3 local shops, Les Schwab, Big O and Manteca Tire which was recommended to me by the Manteca Ford dealership. I was unable to make a good enough argument that the truck had a defect that warranted a repurchase. I was told by the BBB that I need to make another repair attempt and I could ask for another BBB hearing which I did. Long story short, the second DSB hearing got me another repair attempt on Fords dime and they sent the FSE that said I didn't have a problem to work on the truck. He was able to stop the pull to the left.... now the truck pulls to the right and the steering wheel is ****ed to the right and the truck is all over the road, I have to work real hard to keep it in its lane. To correct the pull to the left they increased the caster on the left side to 3.9 Degrees and the right side to 3.0. They are within .2 degrees of being out of their spec on the left and I feel the high caster setting is part of the problem as to why the truck is so twitchy. However, this didn't correct the problem it just moved it to the other side. I have hard steering first thing in the morning or on first start of the day. I asked the arbitrator to reconsider, he stated he still didn't feel I had a significant loss and denied my request. So now I have a very expensive truck that is worse off now than when I started and I have been told to basically suck it up. I brought the truck back to the dealer and told them the truck wandered all over the place and they said they compared it to a like truck and it was normal... I am so pissed with what has taken place with this truck. I don't drive it much and I wouldn't want to sell it to anyone like it is and so far, no one can fix it so I may trade it in and take a huge loss on it...
Unless someone can give me some advice on what to do I think that is my only option I have left. This is too bad because otherwise the truck would be a great truck. Any thought out there?
try a dual steering stabilizer setup to add some resistance to it. Give you more feel. About the only thing I can think of.
I am not looking to add a bandaid, I have driven a few different trucks from different dealerships and they all drive fine compared to mine.
You may be asking why did I buy this truck if it was messed up from the start? I ordered this truck and I have had an 03 and 06 that both needed an alignment when new and they were fixed no problem so I had no reason to believe differently of this truck.
I recently took my Ex in for an alignment. Not the dealership because it is out of warranty. I took it to a company recommended by an old mechanic friend. The company has been around for over 40 years. They are a suspension specialist. As it turned out, the driver's side track bar bolt was loose. It now drives straight and the steering does float. You know, when you have too much play in the steering?
However, I never like the idea of "let's try this and see how it goes". That is fine, I suppose, if they are paying for it. Though you are still out the time if "it" dosen't work.
They need to do a better diagnosis. This old mechanic friend could go for a ride and, even if you were driving, tell you what the problem was.
Surely the dealership personel has someone who can diagnose the problem before needless fixes are attempted. Wasting time and money.
If the alignment is needed within 12 months I believe they, normally, will cover it. I believe that even Ford believes that a vehicle should last a year. Not including regular fluid changes as required. But wipers, alignment, and many other parts should last at least the first 12 months.

Oops, the steering does not float.
