Hey stymie, you hit it perfectly that is exactly what mine is doing this time they said the cover was slightly warped but reality i am getting sick and tired of taking it to the shop to repair this problem for the fourth time. sounds like you have the same truck and it is set up the same 6 inch fab tech lift 17x9 rims with 37's what gears are you running? Im thinking i need 4.30 or 4.56 i need it to pull a 40 ft 5th wheel
stock gears, heaviest thing i pull weighs about 8Klbs

new reflash, fixes the cruise control resume function, stops it from regenning at idle

on your o8 what gears do you have oin the truck? 3:73 I GOT 37" WITH THE STOCK GEARS3:73 GEARS I WAS THINKING TO PUT 4:10'S OR WOULD 4:30'S BE BETTER. I HAD THAT RATIO WITH MY OLD 7.3 W/ 38"
As for the gas mileage it is still probably better than the gas burners. As for performance it, like most modern diesels has some management built in and some other things to smooth things out and prevent undue stress to components. However, if you want it to accelerate hard, from a stop, it will. With an auto, my truck has outrun a friends car (Mitsu Eclipse) until 60. If you want hard acceleration, hold the brake, apply throttle until boost climbs as high as 20 or so, or the rear tires start to brake free, drop the brakes off an it is gone.
I have to tell this story. A couple of weeks ago I was on my way to a service call about 1:30 in the afternoon, and it was raining. There was a late 70's Corvette beside me on the four lane road. At the next intersection the road goes back to two lanes acouple hundred yards after the light. People always race there. I could tell this guy was really prowd of his red Corvette and he looked like he would go for it when the light changed. Before I got to the red light I switched to 4WD so I could get traction on the wet road. I power braked when the light was about to change . I didn't really think I would beat him, but what came next was the funniest thing that I've ever seen. I left him in the dust... well, road spray... because he broke traction trying to beat me. He followed me for over 5 miles, shaking his fist and screaming at me from behind. He stopped at the house I went to, and called me all kinds of intresting names and called my truck a piece of s^%$*. I was laughing and said calmly... well if it's such a piece of s^%* , what does that make your car, cause I just beat it WITH A DIESEL TRUCK that weighs 10 thousand pounds. He was so mad he couldn't see straight.
That will be a story for my grandchildren some day.

A/c head unit burnt up is going back again next week for the same problem.
Gets about 1-2 quarts if diesel in the oil in 5k miles.
All this in 15k miles.
Buy a used gasser or a 7.3 liter diesel.

Reason: FORGOT COVER
22,500+ miles and NO PROBLEMS (with a job 1 no less!). Fuel mileage is what it is. If you want a truck that can pull most anything GET A 6.4L and don't look back !!!!! This truck is comfortable, quiet, and a towing beast.
Just remember, adjust your mirrors, you'll forget you have a load back there.
let the flames begin, again.

The ones with problems are always the most vocal, rockridge. Thanks for keeping it real.
And why heck shouldn't they be...?
Lets face it, the owners like rockridge are far and few between. And it's NOT just the current (new) Ford diesel owners having issues but also the owners of new Cummins and Duramax.
It's going to be a looong painful road before all the troublesome emission crap ever gets figured out on these new overly comlpex diesels. And then there's the 2010 epa standerd the manufactures will have to meet.
Or should I say, the manufactures will once again just put the vehicles on the market before all the bugs are worked out.
No new diesel for me, let someone else be the guinea pig on a $50K truck.

I was expecting issues for a 1st year truck but I'm not surprised most guys aren't having problems. Ford bragged they tested this one well. And it is just the 6.0 with lot's of improvements from what I've read or is it?
With that aside mine has 15K with not one issue on anything. Towing,Plowing, carrying a 4K lb. Lance threw mountain roads.
With Dodge,Chev's I've owned I've has issues. These SuperDutys have been the best trucks I've owned. My wifes 06 Jeep Liberty has had lot's of issues so far up to 34K miles.
Go

Did Ford first replace the seal? If so how long after did the truck start leaking? After the front cover and oil pump were replaced did the leak go away? I looked under my 2008 F250 with only 1500 miles and your picture is exactly what my leak looked like. Great photos, hate the leak already.

FWIW, The GM guys aren't having near the problems Ford and Dodge are. I'm also a member at the dieselplace.com so I hear about issues from both ends. Additionally my 08 F250 has already been in the shop way more than my 2500HD which has well over 350K hard working miles. After enduring much of the same as my 6.0 purchase I'm just about at wits end. It's costing me big when this truck isn't rolling.

If anyone ever tells you they are getting better than 15MPG w/ this diesel and 3.73 gears under best conditions, blow them off. The earlier post that mileage is in the 11 city - 14 highway range is most accurrate. My computer stays in the 12.4 average range and I do not always baby it. Have said this, I like you do not necessarily care about the mileage as i knew that when I bought it. I love the truck and am a fanatic researcher. You should check out blueovalnews.com forums as well to learn more. This is the best truck I have ever had too. Obviously w/ a first model year launch they would have problems and I purchased truck serial no. 68 and took delivery Jan. 07. So at 27k miles my truck is a 1 1/2 old and have not had any problems but getting use to the re-gen crap. But all of you need to know there is a new PCM update that came out this week and need to have the computer "re-flashed" yet again and will improve "city" mileage. It is true the bottom end power is not the engine, it is the computer. My only current problem is I am about to order the 2009 King Ranch 250, and they no longer offer the Copper Color I have now and I am an orange freak and fan. But I want an 09 or 10 as those are the last years on the navistar 6.4L engine and may be a collectors edition one day. You should order or wait on the 09, they have made more improvements. You can se new changes buy downloading spec sheet on 09 250 fyi. good luck.

they replaced a seal, and within 3K it was leaking again(first leak at 4K)
After the front cover and oil pump im leak free... well oil leaks anyways
Just had my steering box replaced due to a "casting flaw" and my radiator finally replaced.

Having read this post, I've concluded that both Ford and Dodge are having emissions related problems. I'm a Dodge guy so I've been watching the complaints at TDR. Almost all of the Dodge problems are software/emissions related. Very few hard failures. Yes, the new Dodge's don't as good of fuel economy as the old models, but that seems to be true of all the new diesels.
In hindsight, I'd probably wait until year three of a new engine to let the engineers get the kinks worked out.
I wouldn't pull the trigger just yet. If your present rig is serving you well I'd wait another year and see what the reports on the '09 models look like. Hopefully, the 6.4 engine will prove to be much better than the 6.0.
So far, what I'm seeing here makes me think Ford has a few more kinks to work out.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have a 2007 Dodge 6.7 CTD. I've had the G-30 O-2 sensor recall and reflash done and otherwise 10,000 miles with no problems. Fuel mileage is 10 MPG towing heavy, 15-16 MPG average not towing. Maximum recorded on one tank of highway driving was 17.4 MPG. Those are no B.S. numbers. Mine is a 2500 LB 4X4 with auto.

17-18....LOL now that's funny... With a 4x4 no less...LOL
Mine has the following problems.
The infamous ticking problem.
Poor Fuel mileage.
Shuttering.
Got towed once for a mystery problem.
Had it in for recalls.
I just posted my Fuel mileage pulling a camper all over the country in another post. In all types of terrain. People here tend to exaggerate the MPGS, makes them feel better.
Agreed, SDdriver.
My otherwise nice 2008 Lariat Crew 4x4 is frustrating me with Shudder while towing (smooth when empty), and lousy economy. I think our friend that claims 17>18 MPG, "accidentally" placed a digit "1" in front of the 7>8 MPG I experienced towing/*****footing our 10,000 lb. 5th throughout Washington, and Idaho last week.
