2008 Econolines

Lookin' kinda' wicked with that new Superduty front end. To bad for those of you that run vans - the diesel is not an option in the 2008's. They are having too hard of a time fitting those eight great tomatoes in that itt bitty can. Still, it looks neat sporting that bold grille and headlights.

Re: 2008 Econolines

I read somewhere that it will be a running change later in the production year to fit the 6.4PSD into the vans.

Re: 2008 Econolines

The prevailing notion, currently, is that the E-series cutaway chassis and vans see slim chance of receiving the 6.4, and will be introduced with hybrid powertrains, eventually, instead.

The Sprinter ( ) and the new detuned-Duramax-powered Chevy Express / GMC Savana will both gladly wipe the drool from their chins and devour F*rd's previously leading market share of this business.

Dark days to be a Ford man, indeed.

Re: 2008 Econolines

To those whoo know,
How is the 6.0 in an E350?
Is is a good rig?
Is it hard to work on? I know it's a de-tuned version of the SD correct?
I think Ford by far has the best van. I drive a V-10 version for work about 40-50K a year.
I beat the heck out of it and it keeps going.
No more diesels in Ford vans huh....bummer.

[/ QUOTE ] All Econoline engines are hard to work on!

I know it's a de-tuned version of the SD correct?

[/ QUOTE ] Sort of. Econoline 350s and 450s, the only chassis numbers in which you may get a 6.0, are also designated "Super Duty." My 6.0 is tuned to produce 235 hp, whereas a 2004 pickup 6.0 is tuned to produce 325 hp. It'll still build 30 psi of boost. It's got more power, and much more torque than my previous gas Econoline had. The 6.0 Econoline intercooler is smaller than the 6.0 truck intercooler.

We vanners also suspect that the pressure drop across the heat exchangers is lower on the van due to the enormous reduction in open space under the hood at engine height. This translates into reduced airflow across them, and therefore reduced cooling capacity. It's a sensible reason to de-tune an engine, no?

The Torqshift really makes the most that 235 hp, the VVT provides good low end and throttle response, and the result is that it's surprisingly quick.
