Thumbs down 2008 F250 6.4 liter loss of power and loss of turbo

Randomly while pulling and not pulling with this 6.4 liter i will loose all my power and looks like the turbo but i think its mostly due to me loosing power and most likely exhaust pressure. The truck has 143,000 miles on it with no aftermarket attachments. When this lose of power happens i have to pull over and turn off engine and restart. A few days ago even restarting the truck when i didnt have a trailer, didnt even fix it. I always have my oil changed every 5,000 and my fuel filters every 10,000 miles. My trailer i pull is about 8,000 pounds. I figure its prob the HPFP but wanted to get some feed back about it. Also i have been looking into EGR deletes and programers for the delete/ fuel milage, Any quality recommendations would be grately appreciated.

I lost power before when my dpf stopped working, it was clogged and not letting any exhaust out in turn the turbos wouldn't spool, ended up blowing a hole in the side of the dpf... When you shut it off and start it back up does it go into Regen?

This to me sounds more like it is limiting the power as in low on fuel or low pressure. I would almost bet there is a code that has been stored in there.

I would suggest an investment to get the code read.

Same thing happened to me. Took it to get the code read and turned out a short in the high pressure pump. Lucky for me i was under 100000 miles barely. I do hope it is something cheaper for you

Well it seems to me i def should buy a code reader, any recommendations? The engine has 145,000 on it so out goes the warranty. But i have def considered a EGR and DPF removal. Im guessing it doesnt matter which blocker plates i go with but any one have real good mileage with a chip the goes with the EGR and DPF blocks?

probably spartan for the tuner and dpf delete. EGR delete I don't know..but spartan can turn it off for you and then cycle it at idle.

Jburcham04, I have not noticed that it goes into regen(filter cleaning?). But i do notice that the truck will say its cleaning but i dont notice any power loss and smoke. But 10% of the time of cleaning it will smoke and lose power. It'll randomly clean after the motors warm prob every 150 for about 50 miles at a time. And it always goes into cleaning when i am 75 miles till Empty. Go figure dump fuel into the exhaust when i start looking for a diesal station. I do travel alot every week

Excuse me for being blunt but get rid of the 2008. It was a horrible year for Ford. You might just be spending too much $$$ on it. I had a 2008 for about a year and a half till I got fed up with it. They replaced the radiators, computer, torque converter and finally the motor. I had enough! Ford actually worked with me and put me in a 2010, which is the same motor but I haven't had a problem since. First thing I did do was remove the DPF and it helped! I hope everything works out and good luck!

the DPF is the diesel particulate filter. It is what traps the soot. A properly working system should be seamless to the driver. Aside from maybe a change in engine tone and a message display you should not have any smoking or driveability concerns. Regens according to your posting are a little too frequent but more info is needed to determine if that is truely the case.

Ford will say that regens should be anywhere from 100-600 miles apart depending upon duty cycle and of course the type of fuel.

So while cleaning the exhaust filter it should not blow white smoke? And pretty much a DPF delete is a new exhaust?

White smoke on a rare occasion with cold ambient temps is about it.

Not a complete exhaust for the dpf delete. Only that portion of the dpf and then a straight pipe installed.
